Lost Childhood 7
With only a bridge separating Juarez from El Paso there were many things that reminded Sara of Columbia. Although she missed some of her favorite Colombian dishes, her mother would make them during special occasions. She would take the time to prepare them for family and close friends. The one thing Sara knew she would not ever miss were the drugs and the crime came along with them; the Cartel and the trafficking that made life miserable.

She made Jorge promise before she left that he would be careful and stay safe. He had told her not to worry; he could take care of himself. That is what worried her most; she knew better than anyone what his life was like in Columbia. Jorge’s father was killed on the street outside their home while getting into his car to go to work one morning. Caught in the crossfire of a fight between two gangs arguing over territory.

Jorge Alvarez was only fourteen when he found his father’s lifeless body slumped against their car. The doctors said he died instantly and had not suffered. It was his family that suffered though; Jorge, his two sisters and his mother were left to survive on their own. His father had had a good job which made it possible for his mother to stay home and raise he and his sisters. Now in an instant they were left with nothing but their belongings and each other.

Jorge had found a safe comfortable place with the help of the company he was working for but because he traveled a lot for his company he was never home. He missed his sisters and especially his mama home cooked meals. Above everything though he missed his papa and Sara. Calculating the money he had saved it wouldn’t be too much longer before they would all be together. Catalina, Gabriella, Valentina, Jorge, and the soon to be Serafina Alvarez together as one big happy family.

Andres Cortez had other plans for Jorge and his family. He thought to himself, “Why else would I do all that I’ve done for he and his family?” Andres had found a beautiful house in one of the most prestigious neighborhoods in Bogota. It was surrounded by trees with just enough privacy for what he had in mind. Everything was coming together just as he had planned.
