"It's a girl! "
The doctor gushed, placing the wailing infant on the woman's chest.
She heaved trying to catch her breath in the aftermath of her gruelling labour. Tears of pain mingled briefly with tears of joy before dissolving into tears of sadness.
She had once again given birth to a girl! Her third daughter. What would her husband and in-laws do to her now?
She didn't know what to do as she felt lost beyond comprehension.
Her husband would now have to take care of yet another child.
He's been so tired lately, She thought as she wiped her infant's salty tears.
The doctor sensed her worry and eased her by comforting her with gentle words.
But words were just words to her.
It didn't change anything.
She didn't want her newborn infant to be a burden to her husband.
But she will introduce her to him.
And to her in-laws.
Who'd care what they were going to think?
This infant was her and her husband's child and was a sister to her other two daughters.
Nothing was going to change that..
