Chapter 7: Meeting Molly

Lia stared at Noah, and her face flushed, knowing someone on the other end heard her voice.

Lia: We just squashed all the rumors about Mike. We certainly don't need any more, especially not with me in the center of it!

Noah walked over to where she was sitting on the bed, the phone was still on his ear. She could hear the voice much clearly now.

Lia: I know that voice, it's Molly, Noah's mother!

MOLLY ON THE PHONE:

Molly: Noah, I asked you a question. Who is there with you at this time of the morning?

Noah: I'm exactly where I'm supposed to be, mother ..... in my hotel room with the women I love!

Lia: The women he loves?

Her cheek turned red as Noah continued to care it softly. But the silence on the other end of the phone makes her worried.

Lia: What could she be thinking now? !

Molly: I want to meet her!

Noah: I'd love for you to meet her mother. But only, if she's comfortable with it!

Molly: Oh pish, posh,! I don't bite. Bring her by after your trip when you come to drop off my things!

Lia heard a click from the other line and Noah sighed.

Lia: I'm sorry Noah, I wouldn't have spoken up like that if I knew you were on the phone!

Noah: Don't appologise Lia, You couldn't see that I was on the phone from way over here! Besides u was planning to tell my mother about you anyway. I just hoping to talk to you about it first! I don't want you to feel blindsided. I know she can be a bit intimidating to people who don't know her!

Lia: Someone who raised such a wonderful man like you can't be bad. You love her, I'm sure I will too!

Noah: Lia, you don't know what it means to hear you say that! No matter what my mother thinks, it'll never change what I think. I want to be with you! I don't think you have anything to worry about. My mother just wants me to be happy! And you Lia, make me happy!

Noah cupped her face, gently tilting her head and bringing her lips to his. As he does, she heard his thoughts say:

Noah: I just pray, I can make her even half as happy as she makes me!

The rest of the business trip went well ..... meetings and business as usual during the day, and whirlwind romance at night. But now that the business trip was over, reality settles in.

Lia: Tonight's the night I formally meet Molly. I'm looking forward to it. Well no time the present.

She stood up, preparing to head to her room. to find something to wear, when there was a sudden knock on the door.

Lia: Who could that be?

She hurried to the door.

Delivery Man: Hi. I've got a delivery here for Ms. Lia!

Lia: That's me. Who's it from?

Delivery Man: Sorry, I just deliver!

She signed for the delivery and carried the package into her living room.

Lia: I wonder what this is. I didn't order anything!

She opened the box and see several beautiful and delicately folded dresses. Suddenly her phone buzzed , alerting her a text message.

TEXT MESSAGE FROM NOAH:

Noah: I hope you don't mind me sending some dresses over. Mother can be a little too concerned about how people dress sometimes! I just want everything to go well. I'll be there to pick you up soon. I can't wait to see you!

She smiled to herself as she pulled out the dresses Noah had picked out for her. She picks out a cute dress for her to wear.

Lia: This is adorable, I love it!

She finished dressing just as Noah knocked on her door.

Noah: That dress looks adorable on you Lia, Thank You for wearing it! I have a limo waiting out front!

Lia and Noah arrived at Molly's house promptly.

Molly: Noah welcome home!

Molly gave Noah a big hug before turning in to her.

Molly: And this must be .... Oh

Molly's eyes wided in surprise as she realized that she was the assistant she met in Noah's office the other day.

Lia: Hi, Molly I'm Lia!

Molly: I see. Well, welcome, Lia Thankyou for coming!

Lia was surprised at Molly's calm demeanor.

Lia: Well, she doesn't seem to be as upset as I thought she'd be. Mabey this won't be so bad!

Molly stepped back and gavf her a subtle once - over, but she could tell she's noticed her outfit for the evening. She smiled warmly at her as she lead her and Noah into the room.

Molly: A young women with an eyes for fashion. You may be a girl after my own heart, darling!

This time it's Lia and Noah that alwere shocked to see another women sitting comfortably on the sofa.

Bonnie: Noah. How good of you to actually show up this time. And look, you even brought the help along with you!

Lia: Who is she?! She's ..... really pretty!

Noah: Mother, what is the meaning of this? Why the hell is Bonnie here?

Lia: Bonnie?

Molly: Language. Noah!

Noah: That's rich, mom! You tricked me into bringing Lia here so that you can blindside us both, but my language is inappropriate?

Molly; I asked Bonnie to come because the tow of you need to have a real conversation! She deserves the truth and she deserves to hear it from you, Noah! Whoever you choose to be with, both of these young ladies deserve honesty from you!

Noah sighed as he rubbed the space between his eyes, as if he felt the start of a migraine.

Lia: Honestly Molly does have a point! If Noah and Bonnie have never actually had this conversation, she at least deserves to hear from him that he doesn't love her! But it is surprising that she doesn't seem to favour either me or Bonnie. She just wants Noah to be honest!

Noah: Bonnie, as much as I dislike how my mother constantly sticks her nose in my love life, she's right! I'm sorry I can't be with you. You're a great person, but I'm in love with Lia!

Bonnie: How could you love her? Look at her! She's a nobody! What could you possibly seen in her?! You're just using her as an excuse to push me away!

Noah: No, Bonnie. She's kind, she's incredibly smart and business-minded. She's selfless and has integrity. I won't let you disrespect her like that!

Bonnie: Molly, surely you don't agree with this. Obviously I'm the better match for your son. She adds nothing to your family name!

Lia watched as Noah steped forward, squaring his shoulders as she angrily eyed Bonnie. Noah gave Bonnie a cold, emotionless smile.

Noah: It would seem you've overstayed your welcome! If you don't mind, I think it's time for you to leave so that my mother, my love and myself can get on with our evening!

Bonnie: I'm not going anywhere, Noah. Molly invited me just as she did you and Lia!

Noah: Bonnie, I didn't want to do this, but you've left me no choice. If you don't leave, I'll tell everyone what John told me!

Bonnie: .......

Lia watched as an expression of pure fear crossed Bonnie's face.

Lia: Who in the world is John? And what could he had told Noah that would have Bonnie so spooked?

Bonnie shoulder finally slumped in registration as she stood to her feet.

Bonnie: Molly, it was wonderful to see you again. But it's obvious that this is just going nowhere. I think it's time that I take my leave!

Molly: Well if you insists, I won't stop you!

Bonnie nodded at Molly and gave her a short wave. She walked towards the front door without even a glance on Lia and Noah's direction. But Lia noticed Bonnie's eyes suddenly brightened with unsheded tears as she passed by her.

Lia: I didn't expect to feel bad for her, but I do. Despite how rude she was, it's obvious her feelings were hurt!

Molly: Noah, what was that all about? What did John tell you?

Noah: Nothing of importance, mother. Today is about you and Lia getting to know one another!

Molly: Yes that's true!

Lia: It's really not my business besides, what does it matter? She's gone, and now Noah and I can enjoy the evening with Molly!

Molly: Well, I have to be honest, Lia. I did think Bonnie was a good match for Noah! But I also know my son is a good man who always tries to do the right thing and cares deeply for others! He sees something wonderful in you, and if Noah sees it, then it must be there! I'd like to spend some time getting to know you so I can see it too!

Lia: I would love that Molly!

Molly: And since I'm being honest, I want to let my intentions be clear. You do seem like a lovely young lady!

Lia: I feel a " but " coming!

Molly: But you wouldn't be the first of Noah's assistants to try to seduce him into falling for you so he can be your meal ticket!

Lia: And there it is!

Noah: Mother! Lia is nothing like that!

Molly: You let me be the judge of that!

Lia: And I appreciate that you want to make sure I'm not taking advantage of Noah! I don't mind being put under a microscope. My feelings for him are genuine!

Noah: .......

Lia: Molly, I think it's wonderful that you care so much about your son. I know you just want to protect him! I just want you to know that you and I have ethe same goal. We're on the same team!

Molly sighed and Lia noticed her eyes suddenly brightened with unsheded tears.

Molly: Yes I love Noah very much. He's all I have since his father passed away! And he's done such a wonderful job stepping up to the plate and taking over his father's company at such a young age!

Noah: Mom ......

Molly: No, no it's fine. Lia, you have to understand. Noah's father passed so suddenly, without warning! I often worry that something like that may heppen to me as well and then Noah will be all alone!

Lia: Oh .. Molly. I'm so sorry!

Molly: I know meddle, probably more than a mother should. But I just want to make sure Noah is happy and loved when I'm gone!

Lia got up from her seat beside Noah, and went to sit next to Molly, resting a gentle hand on her shoulder.

Lia: You don't have to worry about that, Molly. I will always be there for Noah. And for you!

Molly finally looked up at Lia and Noah as she swiped her tears.

Molly: I know this hasn't been the most comfortable evening for you, Lia. But I do hope they we can get to know each other better! Why do you two stay evening here. That'll give us more time!

The rest of the evening was more pleasant as Molly told Lia funny stories of Noah's childhood. As the hours grew late, Noah lead her to his room that he grew up in.

Lia: I'm really excited to stay in the room you grew up in, Noah. I love seeing this side of you!

Noah: Well, if you think this is nice. I can't wait for you to see my penthouse! Thank You for being so understanding tonight, Lia. I know this wasn't easy for you! But I do think my mother really likes you and you two will become close as she gets to know the wonderful person you are!

Lia: I was happy to do it!

Lying on bed, Noah pulled her close to him, and gave her a tender kiss thy left her breathless.

Noah: This is a dream come true for me, Lia. Having you in my arms, introducing you to my mother! I don't know what could make this night better!

Lia: Well I do!

She leaned in to kiss him once more, leaning her head on his shoulder and he wrapped her in his arms. She snuggled close to Noah an dthe two of them fell asleep in each other's arms.

The next morning Lia woke up and saw Noah still sleeping peacefully next to her. Wanting to make a good impression, she decided to get up and make coffee for everyone. But when she entered the living room, she was surprised to see Molly's already there.

Molly: Good morning Lia, how did you sleep?

Lia: Very well thankyou Molly!

Molly: Come sit next to me. Since we're going to get to know each other, I think there are some things you really need to know!

Lia: Oh no, what does that mean?
