Etymology.
The name derives from the Latin «hiběrnum», «season of cold» (in reference to the weather), and from the adjective «hibernus».
According to folklore, the name winter derives from Averno (i.e. the kingdom of Hades), it would be a variation of the word Avernus which derives from the Greek άορνος.

Beyond the historical/cultural aspect,
