I have no formal education in creative writing or literature whatsoever. I learned everything by myself through youtube, reading, research, understanding, and writing away as much as I can. I make a lot of mistakes whether it be grammatical or any other kind. I hope you can point them out and help me correct it so I can learn more. I will try my best to provide you errorless guidance though. I am not going to pretend to know everything because I really don't. I have a lot to discover yet.
Whatever I am going to tell you here is through my own understanding and experience.

HOW TO WRITE A GOOD STORY
🔸🔸Character Writing🔸🔸
Now that we have covered the plot writing, we come to another element of story writing which is character writing!
Characters are the life of the story. Without them, you would be just reciting the plot which is extremely boring and won't make up a really good story.
Writing a character is one of the toughest things that I have faced and I still make so many mistakes doing that since there is no limit to what you can add and delete in them.
👉Type of characters:
(We will talk about each of them in separate posts)
🔶1) Protagonist-
The main hero/heroine of the story. We see the story from their point of view and the story depends on their actions and motivations. There could be multiple protagonists too (Romeo and Juliet)
↪Example:
A) Christina in my story, Garden of Spiders (Go check it out in story section if you enjoy suspense)
B) Harry Potter in the Harry Potter series.
C) Shiva in Bahubali movie
🔶2) Antagonist-
The villain/opponent of the story is going to be an obstacle to the protagonist's goal.
Need not to be in the form of a person.
(Eg- An illness such as cancer or defeating cancer)
↪Example:
A) the killer vs Christina or the case.
B) Lord Voldemort vs Harry Potter.
C) Bhallaldeva in Bahubali.
🔶3) Main characters:
You would read many articles where any types of characters are given different categories but for the sake of simplicity, I would keep them all here.
These characters are the closest people to the protagonist or the antagonists. They influence the attitude of the protagonist or the story plot more than any other character. Their decision and choices can change the behavior of your protagonist greatly, bringing about the change in plot.
↪Example-
A) Christina sees Detective Davis as a mentor and aims to impress him. He is her senior and when he offers her a challenge, her behavior changes incredibly towards the case, giving her a personal motive to solve it.
B) Hermione and Ron are Harry's best friend and he shares a very deep emotional connection with both of them. They affect his mood and attitude greatly. Fighting with any of them personally impacts him.
Dumbledore is more than a professor or principal to Harry. He protects Harry and shares a unique bond with him. He gave a fatherly love for him and Harry sees him as a mentor. In the part, Order of the Phoenix, we see how deep Harry is affected when Dumbledore doesn't reciprocate or respond to him much. Harry gets upset which interferes with his usual mood too.
Ginnie is another example
C) Shivagami is a strong female lead in the story of Bahubali. She is fierce and is praised by everyone. Amarinder Bahubali's mother passes away when he was born but Shivagami treated him as her own son, Bhallaladeva. Her every decision influenced him greatly.
Kattappa, who is the general of the army is like an uncle to Bahubali.
Avantika and Devasena fall into this category too.
🔶4) Side characters
They comprise the group of people who are not so significant to the plot but they are important to the protagonist and antagonist. They help the plot in one way or another and add richness to the story. These could be secondary or tertiary.
We don't know many details about tertiary characters since they appear once or twice.
↪Example-
A) Walters, Maya, Jones, etc.
B) Ron's family, Professor Quill, Hagrid, McGonagall, schoolmates, Quidditch teammates etc.
C) Sanga(Tribal woman who adopted Shiva) Bijjaldeva, Kumar Verma, Bhadra( Bhalladeva's son), etc.
All these characters directly help, drive the plot forwards, provide motivation, indirectly support the character(emotionally or otherwise), or become a complication for the protagonist by helping antagonist, by having personal agenda against them, or indirectly complicating things.
It could be anything. You just have to creative. The world is the biggest example. There are all kinds of people. Take inspiration from real life.
They have chosen sides and contribute immensely to the plot and the story.
These are the basic types of characters and there are many more such as anti-hero/heroine, neutral characters, etc. They deviate from the traditional characters and are complicated but strange to the real world. Personally, they are fun to write and are my favorite kind of characters since they break many stereotypes and are a breath of fresh air.
Eg- Deadpool from Marvel defines himself as an anti-hero. He is not a villain but not exactly Hero either. He does what he wants and doesn't have typical hero characteristics that we so used to. But in the end, he saves the day.
We will wrap this up here and in the next posts, I will be writing about each category, adding tips and important information on how they are created.
