Malik Trivail

Why was this lady always flirting with me? I sighed in my head. She is too old to be doing this type stuff.

I just roll my eyes and follow Diamond, who is leading us to a large desk in the back of the room.

Two other people who aren't with is sit in the room. I recognize the red haired, boy with light skin and blue eyes. Zachary. That boy a hoe, I think as I see him flirting with yet another girl.

She kinda cute though, I think observing her coily afro, dyed blonde on the ends. She got a big smile, too, with her pearly white teeth. And she got some rich brown skin, Kinda like me.

"Malik...Malik...Malik!" I turn realizing that Diamond's talking to me. Purple doesn't suit her. I think, mentally laughing at how she would get in my tail for telling that to her.

"Hey, quiet kid." Valentoria says, to my surprise. She's always so quiet. And she got the nerve to be calling me quiet.

"Yes, Ms. Valentoria?" I ask her formally, just to get under her skin.

Her face changes from kindness to emotionless and she snaps, "Pay attention, boy."

"Ooh-" I hear Diamond say taunting me.

"That's right, you tell him, Val!" The pretty girl says.

"Bruhhh...we have work to be doing right now." Jackson says killing the vibe, just as I was getting hype. And Valentoria rolls her eyes annoyed with Jackson.

"Alright, yo, my bad." I say to calm Jackson down.

"Finally we can get some work done." Diamond says, whipping her platted, purple hair over her shoulder.

Valentoria doesn't say anything, but looks quite satisfied.

It's about 3:30 and we've made a lot of progress. We all decided to take a quick break to eat or get a drink, but everybody just got on their phones for the most part.

Diamond taps the middles of the large desk to get our attention, "Just so you guys know, my brothers going to be here in about five minutes. He had practice today and it just about over, but we always go home together...so yeah." Everybody just shrugs and a couple "okay"s or "cool"s are passed around the table.

Brrr brrr brrr, I grab my phone to see who's calling. "Mum"

I look up and everyone in the group is staring at me. "It's my mum, guys, so yeah I'm gonna go answer this."

I go to a small corner of the room and answer the phone, "Hey, Mum, everything alright? Is the baby okay? You remember I told you that I had to stay after school today, right?" I says, worry starting to fill me.

I hear a sniffle over the phone, "Don't come home, Malik! You can't come home. Are you still at school? Stay at school, Malik! Lock the doors. Don't go outside or find shelter somewhere! Whatever you do just don't come home!" My mum cries hysterically.

"What?!" I panic, completely confused. "Mom are you okay?? What's going on?! Stay where you are okay, I'm coming home right now!" I run over grabbing my backpack.

"No, Malik! Listen to me! DO. NOT. COME. HOME." She says, sternly and obviously trying not to cry. "Listen to me, Malik! Something is happening to us...to the women...to the women who got the Jhlen treatment, Malik."

My mind goes blank. "MOM! WHAT DO YOU MEAN? WHAT'S HAPPENING, MOM, ARE YOU GOING TO BE OKAY?" I begin to yell in the phone out of fear and desperation.

"Malik..." She cries, quietly. "I don't know, Malik, but you can't come home. Don't go outside. And stay away from anyone who is pregnant. They're...We're turning into monsters...Malik, they're eating people!!" My mom cries.

"Mom, you're not making sense. What do you mean? Mom, please, I'm coming home." I says, knowing that she'll only object.

"No, Malik, don't even go outside. Nothing has happened to me, yet, but it's bound to happen to me soon."

"Mom..." I says, running my hand through my short locs.

"Malik...if you come home...I'm gonna kill myself." She says, quietly.

"Mom-!"

"Please stay safe, Malik, I need to call my cousin. Remember she got the treatment, too...I need...I need to see if she's...okay." she sighs. "I love you, LikLik, you will always be my strong, manly, and handsome son, goodbye."

All I can do is stand shell-shocked, then turn and see everyone else staring at me full of worry, terror, and shock. Jackson opens his mouth to speak, but is cut off by the door bursting open.

"What going on, Travis?!" I hear Diamond yell, running over to her brother as he quickly shuts the door and locks it.
