Some people would think they were lucky to be like me, but that's because they're clueless.
I'll give you an example or two, I have at least thousands. So, I'm at work in the hospital, at the time I was a surgical nurse, and the anesthesiologist asked me if I have any kind of hard candy. We'd been in this gallbladder case for three hours already because we had to open. The patient had too many adhesions from previous abdominal surgeries, and it was too difficult to continue with a laparoscopic approach. It get cold in the operating room and your throat gets dry, even more so because of the masks we wear. You can't bring any drinks or food, or candy for that matter, into a sterile environment. There's a risk of contamination and increased infection rates. That doesn't mean that it's always followed exactly. We're only human. We had so many operating rooms running and there weren't any extra anesthesiologists to relieve each other. I could feel the others in the surgical team waiting. "You do have some peppermints in your pocket, right?" Doctor Sherba asked.
I wanted to ignore the question, but the candy was already there. "Sure, I said. I actually have a few." "I knew it. Great!" he said....
