1Ti 1:5

[15] Now the end of the commandment is GODLY LOVE out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned:

All of the scriptures are written for the purpose of teaching us:
- how God loves us
- how God wants us to love Him
-how God wants us to love one another.

It is to mould in us the Love of God. It is to make us like God Himself for God is Love.

1 John 4:7-8
[7]Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.
[8]He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

It is important that we recognize that in scripture there are three to four different words used to represent love:

Eros: A sexual, physical attraction between a man and a woman

Storge: The affection between family members: parents and children, brothers and sisters.

Phileos: The affection shown between close friends; also called brotherly kindness

Agape: the perfect, unconditional, sacrificial and untainted love of God.

It is Agape Love that we must strive to attain to for it is Agape Love that God has shown us.

Paul gives the best description of this love:

1 Corinthians 13:4-7

{4}Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,

[5]Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;

[6] Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;

[7] Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.
