Uneasy Calm In Labour Party
Uneasy calm hits the labour party over the stakeholders’ meeting convened by Governor of Abia state, Alex Otti and presidential candidate of the party in the 2023 election, Peter Obi.


The meeting was held in Umuahia, the state capital of Abia state.



Both callistus Okafor and Julius Abure led factions of the party have rejected the convention of the meeting describing it described as illegal, unconstitutional and a jamboree.



in a statement, factional chairman of the party, callistus Okafor said the outcome is non and void.


According to Okafor, the meeting was held in breach of the 2009 constitution of the party.


He insisted that all factions must come together to hold an all inclusive convention to elect new leaders of the labour party.


He reacting to the announcement of Usman, a former senator, as chairman of a 29-member committee.

The committee was set up following a stakeholders meeting of the party convened by Alex Otti, governor of Abia and other elected government official of the party including the 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi.









Addressing a press conference in Abuja before the convention Okafor warned the convener not to go ahead with the meeting saying some people are using the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to validate their selfish interest.

The factional chairman said he was not aware that the electoral body gave anybody permission to hold any meeting or set up a caretaker committee.
