Bloody winter. part 8
Bloody winter. Part 8

I was heading to university. It was 8 a.m., and my first lesson began at 9, so I was early, walking slowly. The weather remained cold, but the streets were no longer blanketed in snow. Rain had melted it all away. Three days had passed since my last visit to the police station. The only information they provided was that the injured man was improving, and the case remained open because the criminal was still unidentified.
In one way or another, I wanted to free myself from all this. I continued with my life as usual, not missing a single day of school, even through the rough weekend I had. I stayed up nights to study, so I didn't had the time to think about those man.
I felt the ringing of a phone. It took me a few seconds to realize it was mine. On its screen, I read: "Unknown number." I usually don't answer unknown numbers, but my finger slid through the green button on its own. I heard the voice of a woman say, "Hello, is this Miss Tigreb H. on the phone?"
The voice was a little familiar, but I couldn't remember who it was. "Yes, that is me. May I know who you are, Miss?"
"Hello, this is Detective Sable. I would like to inform you that the man at the hospital wants to meet and thank you. I couldn't give him your contact without permission, so I called you myself to inform you that if you want, you can find him in his room today at 3 p.m. since he will be discharged today," she said.
"Oh, hi, Detective. Thank you for informing me. I know this is not your job to do. I don't think I want to meet with him. I just returned to my normal life, and I don't want to lose this anymore," I replied. We said goodbye, and she closed the phone.
After university, I went home. I started eating, but I wasn't in the mood. I was hungry but had no appetite. Playing with the fork, the doorbell rang. I wasn't expecting anyone, so I was a little confused. I opened it to find three men standing tall before me, all in black attire. I recognized only one of them; it was the man who was shot.
"Hello, Miss H.! Do you remember me?" he said. I didn't lose my coolness.
"Hello, sir. What are you doing here?" I asked, confused.
"Well, since you didn't come to me, I guess it was only right for me to find you. I think I do owe you a thank you. Can we come in?" he calmly said.
"Oh, yes, of course, welcome!" He sat on one of the couches in the living room, and the other two men stayed still. I got some biscuits and placed them on the table.
"I guess I have to introduce myself first. My name is Kael Blaze," he said, and we shook hands. "I am Tigreb H.," I introduced myself.
"I know, darling, I know. I would like to thank you for your help. The boys also told me about your visit to the hospital. That was very nice of you."
I opened my mouth to speak, but he continued, "I know the situation you were in and that it was hard for you. I also know very well why you kept your mouth shut." His intonation changed. I was holding the ring finger of my right hand so hard; it actually started bleeding again.
"If you had known me, you would understand that I don't forgive this type of betrayal, but at the end of the day, you did save my life, so I will go with your little plan," he said.
"Mister, I..." I tried to speak.
"Shttt, don't say anything!" he ordered. "I like your character. This is my business card. If there seems to be a problem, you can call that number. Also, if I ever tell you to come to me again, I will not accept no as an answer. Don't make me change my testimony from a man hit me with a gun and left, to a young girl pointed a gun at me...!"
Just like that, he got up and left. I sat, trying to drink some water, but my hand was moving out of my control. What had I gotten myself into? His words didn't comfort me at all; they terrified me.
Like that, my eyes had closed. It had been some hours. When I woke up, the clock showed 8:17 p.m. I took a bath to calm myself, and then I was drying my hair.

Through the air dryer's noise, I heard the sound of a key opening a door. I turned my head around; the door of my house opened so fast. The masked man started coming toward me. That aura of his didn't look good at all. I turned the dryer off as I got up from the couch.
"What are you doing..." I started to ask, but he started yelling at me. "Why the hell did you talk with him? What was that man doing in your house?!!!"
My lips started shaking. I took some steps back, but then he grabbed my hands and threw me to the wall. I felt a strong pain in my spine. Then I used all my force to push him away. "Why should I tell you? Who do you think you are to enter my house like this!"
"I don't know where I found the courage to say those words. I was yelling at a man who could kill me right there and right at that moment. I must be crazy."
I yelled, staring right at his eyes. For the first time, I could see his face clearly. Those emerald eyes that I was staring at were so deep. I fell silent. He raised his left hand high to hit me. For that moment, my eyes closed as a single tear started falling...
