The Modern Generation and Digital Era
It had hardly been 30 years since she was born but she felt old seeing the younger generation. Their was a time when the good old saying, 'Early to bed and early to rise' had some meaning. Waking up at 6:30 on a Sunday morning, enjoying the sunrise, listening to the birds chirping, going for morning walks, helping her mom prepare breakfast and an endless list of things that she used to do when she was younger came to her mind. Finishing her breakfast by 9:00, she remembered completing her homework and running down the streets, meeting her friends and playing. From playing board games to outdoor games, cycling to swimming, singing to dancing., how time passed by she had no idea. It was indeed a new era where the children would wake up at 11:00 in the morning, have brunch, stick to their gadgets and spend hours and hours on their cellphones without doing a single physical activity. Preparing and eating home-made food looked like a dream as home delivery and junk food was the new trend. She,a doctor, was disheartened on seeing children complain about back-ache, eye problems, low immune system and becoming obese. She quietly sat in her chamber, prescribing medicines to her patient. She knew the reasons why all of this was happening, but did not know who to blame, the children, the parents, the society or the modern world where all of this was a part of their normal routine.
