Asbestos
Asbestos was discovered as long ago as the Roman empire, the Romans used it for various things including cloths to dry dishes and aprons.
In the British building industry around the 1900's we used it for lagging pipes, roofing and drywall partitions, there are three types of asbestos, grey, brown and blue.
It was found to be toxic as the particles go airborne, if they get into your lungs, the spores attach and start growing which could eventually cause you to have breathing issues, even cancer, death can be very slow.
I was aware that the roof on my chalet was asbestos so it was carefully removed and will be disposed of properly, yesterday I started taking down an internal wall, to my horror this also is asbestos sheeting but we managed to take the wall down without too much hassle today, it has all been taken away by a specialist contractor at great cost. Asbestos was banned in the UK and no longer used since 1980, it is safe to leave in place as long as it isn't disturbed.
