Unfortunate ones
~A very short story by 11 year old me

The angry sky sighed heavily, each time causing a strong blow of wind.

Dressed in all black, your clothes are torn and tattered. Sometimes you wish someone would treat you like something other then a bag of trash. Sometimes you wish the pain of an empty stomach would go away. But those things never happen. The feeling of hunger overcomes all else. The word 'lunch' had become unfamiliar to you.

You're on your knees, wishing someone could spare some change for a fella like yourself. No one even notices you, like usual. However, today was a lot better then the previous day. Being ignored was much better then having a man throw his half finished lunch at you, curse your existence and tell you to get a job.

The sky becomes dark.

You leave tear stained paths across sunken cheeks, convincing yourself that the next day would be better. You hope that there would be a kind saviour who would sit next to you, give some money and just talk to you for a while.

The streets are your home. The mice along the road are your friends. The scraps in the dumpster are your supper. And that was your life.

Night, you lie-down, cuddling your fears like a blanket as you watch the sun fall asleep.

The next day had to be better.

It just had to be.
