Is Hindi really India's official language?
//Is Hindi really India's official language?//

Thinking about writing on the importance of Bengali language in India for a long time. According to the Indian constitution, there are 22 official languages in India, Bengali being one of them. The others include Hindi, Kannad, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Odia, Marathi, Gujarati, Assamese, Urdu, English etc. But some uneducated and falsely-educated people claim that Hindi is the only official language of India and so all the govt policies/exams should be written in Hindi. Some others retort that English is the international language and Hindi is the state language and so, both are used in govt policies and exams in india. But what they do not know is, that all the 22 languages are officially accepted anywhere in India and so they are equally worthy of being used in regional policies and exams. But to our woe, this is still not done. Still Hindi is forcefully being used in the name of national/official language, whereas in reality, there is no national language in India and all the 22 languages are the official languages of India according to the constitution.

But non-bengali people do not want to admit or accept the fact that Bengali also holds the 1/22th importance if the official languages are concerned. And as they do not accept the fact, they do not speak the Bengali language either, even if they are doing business in West Bengal! How strange! Most of these businessmen are from Bihar, UP and Odissa. But they force Bengali people to speak in Hindi, Bhojpuri or Odia when Bengalis are in their territory. Is this fair? Why govt of India is not paying any heed to this serious matter? Bengali people are very caring and hospitable; that's why they do not misbehave with other people coming from outside of West Bengal. But if Bengali people do not get the same treatment from the opposite side, how does it feel? If Maharashtra can have their 'Marathi asmita' (pride), Gujaratis can have 'Gujarati asmita', south Indians can force outsiders to speak in their native tongues; why not West Bengal can? If Bengalis do not allow outsiders to speak their respective tongues inside West Bengal, will that be very unethical?
