Feeling Better
My days start the same way. The alarm goes off, I roll out of bed and head to the bathroom. I throw some water on my face and brush my teeth. The clothes I put on are the same as alway when it's Springtime weather; sports bra, tee shirt, stretch leggings and a pair of white crew socks. The year old Nikes are well worn in and may need to be replaced soon to save my feet.
Then I put earbuds in, grab a water bottle, my cell and hit the road. This is how it goes every morning, except for the time I went running with someone else.
We had a new girl at our school. She started three weeks ago when her family moved here from Chicago. Even though Betty is sixteen like me, she looks hardly out of grammar school. She's barely over 100 pounds. And she's quiet, very quiet. My homeroom teacher asked me to try and help her out to get comfortable in school.
I sat down next to Betty at lunch with a few of my friends. We asked her about her life in Chicago and why they moved here, a small town in Wisconsin. When she didn't say much we filled in...
