Mama's Cry
"Remember that no matter what happens, I will always love you. I will forever love you."
"But there's is not enough time to love forever." I barely cried out. "Where are they!"
"Shh-shh...Forever is...beyond life... itself..." she whispered, simultaneously expiring for the last time.
My heart pounded vigorously. A whirl of emotions and thoughts emerged in me, "That can't be the end! We haven't gone to our dream city- Paris. Nor have we picked out my wedding dress together. She has to tell my future kids embarrassing stories about me. I can't let her go just yet. This is all my fault."
I always knew time would have its way but I never thought of how soon.

I watched my mom swim in the almost vacant pool with her new husband with content. I've never seen her this happy ever since my step brother, Zac, was born three years ago.

"Gina! Come swim with your brother!" she squirmed, as Harry tickled her mercilessly. "Harry and I are going... to eh... check out.. eh... what's available for dinner. Yeah."

Bad liar.

I'm old enough to know what their trying to hide. Seventeen-year-old Gina Butler was way smarter than that.

"Sure. You both can check that out. I'm watching Zac." I sarcastically responded.

In despair, I climbed into the kiddie pool and waved my legs in the water.

"Gina!!! Call the ambulance! She just collapsed! I can't feel a pulse! Your mom needs help." Harry yelled out in panic.

"What?!" I screamed in disbelief. "Mama!!!"

Quickly, I grabbed Zac and called the ambulance. My head was spinning. No pulse?

Ten minutes later the ambulance arrived and took my mom. Harry went with them and I followed with my car to the hospital. Thankfully, my mom woke up on the way. I didn't even realise the tears running down my face. Tests were run at the hospital but it took weeks before we were informed about her condition.

"They can't find what's wrong with her. They said they haven't seen this before. All they know is that she has a viral infection. She will be contained until all is cleared" Harry slowly spoke.

I held back my tears.

"Mama will be fine right Daddy?" Zac sporadically asked.

"Yes." Harry and I chorused.

Three months later, my mom was finally released from the hospital. I brought her back to our empty home since Harry had an emergency political meeting and Zac was at grandma's.

"Welcome home mama!" I joyfully hugged her as I lead her inside the house.

"Aww Gina. Thanks." She smiled back.

"I would have done a little party but you know, nobody's home yet." I told her.

"That's okay," she said while looking around, as though everything were new to her, "We can have a girls night. Just us with the TV to ourselves and... Netflix! If only you haven't finished watching Vampire Diaries without me?"

"What? Nerh... I just watched two extra episodes. That's it."

For hours we talked about school and home and TV. Then we watched Netflix until almost midnight. Unfortunately, we were interrupted by the doorbell. I paused the TV and reluctantly marched to the door.

"Dad?" I whispered in shock.

"Hey cherry. Mind if I talk to mom?" he coolly asked as if nothing had happened.
I attempted to shut the door when his foot blocked the way.

"Chris what do you want? You're not supposed to be here. I'm calling the police." Mama said to him whiles walking over to the door.

"Look, I'm sorry I came this late but... Can we just talk? Please Zoe." He begged.

"Gina. Go upstairs to your room. Please dear." She commanded whiles staring into my Dad's eyes sceptically.

With no complaints, I headed upstairs to my room and shut the door. But right after, I slightly opened it to listen to their conversation.

"What do you want Chris? For real. It's been five years. How did you even find me?'' Mama ranted.

"You're not happy to see me Zoe? Huh? I'm sure you've missed me." he scoffed.

"Stop playing around. What is it?" Mama asked.

"I just wanted to see how you're doing... and apologise for my past errors. Your 31 now right? Or turning 31 next week?" he rhetorically asked as his footsteps induced loud creaks on the ground.

"So? You shouldn't be here. Please leave." Mama said.

"I don't want to leave you. I'm dying without you. My life's a mess Zoe." my Dad's voice became desperate.

"Chris, leave. I'm sorry but I can't. I've moved on now." she softly spoke whilst sniffing back tears.

"Woow. That explains the ring... and that stoller-" my dad listed in disappointment.

"Chris stop."

"And these wedding invitation cards..."

"I'm sorry but you have to go- please don't.."

CRACK.

"Nice family picture. Sorry. That slipped out of my hand." his voice hardened.

"I'm calling the police right now if you do not step out of my house Chris... Get out!" she yelled in fear.

I had enough. I can't let this.. stranger, disturb my mom. So I got out of my room to help her but then it sounded.

BANG. BANG. BANG.

Were those gunshots? I raced downstairs to see my dad on the ground in his blood, holding a gun. Then my mom- two wounds: one on her chest and one on her stomach. Blood was everywhere. I grabbed the phone which had 911 dialled and instinctively called and rapped out our home address, my mom getting shot and my Dad's suicide.

"Gigi." she whinced in pain. "Stop."
I could barely see her through the tears in my eyes.

"Remember that no matter what happens, I will always love you. I will forever love you."
"But there's is not enough of our lives to love forever." I barely cried out. "Where are they!"
"Forever is beyond life itself..." she whispered, simultaneously expiring for the last time.

I never thought my own dad would hurt me again.
