The Bitter-sweet Taste of Disagreement
The Bitter-sweet Taste of Disagreement

Moises Lagonoy

Disagreement makes life tastier. It keeps us away from the bland world where everyone acts like walking redunduncies. Different ideas and points of view indeed make us stronger and safer, for if all are to immediately heed on something weak and illogical, mankind will be doomed in no time. Disagreement is part of the backbone of a strong society. It is a key to finding better processes, better solutions. It is a powerful tool in sifting out the trivial from the important things.

Disagreement should always be welcomed. But it's a double-edged sword. Use it clumsily and you will end up hurting yourself. You can always disagree or disapprove, but it doesn't mean you can cast hate and wrath, too. Be careful not to dehumanize those you disagree with. Be careful not to be overly self-righteous while proving your point, for you can become the very things you criticize in others without even knowing about it.

Or better yet, stay away from argument. Welcome the disagreement but do not argue. If you feel that you really have to do it, argue against the idea, not the person.
