"It's a girl! "
The doctor gushed, placing the wailing infant on the woman's chest.
She heaved trying to catch her breath in the aftermath of her gruelling labour. Tears of pain mingled briefly with tears of joy before dissolving into tears of sadness.
She had once again given birth to a girl! Her third daughter. What would her husband and in-laws do to her now?

Gauri was already insulted and thrashed many times for giving birth to two girl child. She knew well that this time again she have to suffer from so many insults and unexpected pains after her husband will thrash her.
Neeraj, Gauri's husband, became very angry when nurse told him about Gauri that she has again given birth to daughter . He left the hospital alone without taking her wife and daughter. When he reached home, his mother, Leela, said angrily," It looks like Gauri has again given birth to girl child, now I will find another girl for you and you have to marry her".
Suddenly Gauri reaches her in-laws home and started crying and said" what are you saying mother-in-law , is it good to do"?
Angry Neeraj said," what wrong is she saying, if you can not give birth to a son then I will marry another girl and she will give me a son". Saying this Neeraj left from home. Gauri raned taking her daughter in room and started crying.

Next day Gauri's sister-in-law, Nitu, surprisingly came home after completing her graduation. Her mother asked her," why you wouldn't call us, Neeraj might have picked you up from the station? Now your studies are over, now you have to marry to a man whom I have selected for you otherwise people will blame me that Leela had sent her daughter in city and now she has became unmannered".
"Stop mom" said Nitu angrily. "I have just reached home and you have started talking useless things, where is Gauri? I am going to meet her".

Nitu went inside Gauri's room, seeing her Gauri started crying and hugged her. Nitu asked her about her daughters and about little daughter. Gauri told her that they all are fine but her in-laws are not happy with them, she told Nitu that she wanted to make her daughters like her(Nitu), she wanted to educate them but her in-laws will not grant her permission to educate her daughters.
Nitu said, "what do you think, they have allowed me to do graduation, no, they have not even allowed me to study. When I was small there was my aunt who saw that I wanted to study so she took me with her to educate me. when I passed 12th she died due to cardiac attack so I decided to continue my studies with the help of money she left for me. Now I have completed my graduation and I have applied for the job".

Gauri said," Is this the reason you never returned home"? Nitu said that yes she is right, if she had returned home they had never allowed her to go for studies.

Nitu knew that day after tomorrow she will have to go for the job interview but she also knew that her brother and mother will not allow her to go again so she has to request them.

Next day Nitu requests her mother that please let her go to city for 1 day only if she will not be able to qualify her interview then she will keep her feet always inside home. Her mother any how accepts her request but kept one condition that next day when she will come she will have to accept the marriage proposal of a man from village.

Nitu unwillingly said okay and next day she left for interview.

Gauri was sitting and feeding milk to her child, her husband saw her and told her angrily to feed toxicants to her otherwise she will increase his expenses in future.
Gauri felt hurted and said smoothly that child whether boy or girl, he will have to spent money on both of them.
Listening this Neeraj stops and said," how dare you to talk to me like this?"
He grabbed her hand and pushed her in courtyard and slapped her badly due to which she felt on chaff cutting machine which was being driven by two men.
Gauri started screaming, her leg was almost cut, she became unconscious.
She was taken to hospital.

Next day Nitu came home and told everyone happily that she has qualified interview but no one replied every one ignored her so she started looking for Gauri to give her good news so she went to Gauri's room where she saw that Gauri's daughters were crying and little baby was crying on floor and ran towards the baby and picked her up.
She asked both girls about their mother, they told that their mother was sick so she is hospitalized.

Listening this Nitu went to hospital where she found Gauri lying on the bed she was looking shocked.
Nitu asked Gauri what happened to her? Gauri firstly didn't replied but later she started crying and removed bedsheet from her leg, seeing this Nitu was shocked.

Nitu saw that Gauri's one leg was cut from knee
Nitu asked how it happened, Gauri told everything about what happened.

Nitu took Gauri to home and told her brother and mother that Gauri had always fulfilled her responsibilities without saying any single word but when yesterday she answered a correct thing to Neeraj then he made her to suffer this much that she has to lose her leg.

Nitu said, " Now this is over now I will take Gauri and her daughters to the place where I am going to do job".
She said now no one can stop her, she told her brother that if he is boy and she is girl then why he is any how running the home and she is going to do a big job.
She told that she has proved that girls are not only for marriage but they can do anything they wanted to do .

Listening this words from Nitu both were shocked now they were feeling that Nitu is right.

From this day Nitu started to inspire other girls to study,in villages.
She inspired Gauri to do work by hand,if she don't have leg then also this doesn't matter
she can work bye hand and earn money.
