The Wolf (Chapter 2)
Sirena walked outside into the cold morning air. The sun was just peaking over the small mountain in the far distance. Her eyes closed as she listened to the whistling of the wind. She tasted the air using her enhanced wolf senses and smelled the oak trees planted around her house. Sebastian walked forward to the edge of the forest and shifted to his wolf form. The russet colored wolf looked at her with his green eyes. He tilted his head slightly, beckoning the two to join him. As much as she enjoyed the abilities of humans, she really enjoyed being out in the wild. She shifted into her wolf form and shook out her black and silver coat. Her chest and tail were just growing her sea blue color since she was only 17 and not fully transferred to her role as alpha. Her dad was alpha of about 50 others. Sirena would start out small since she was only 17. So far her pack consisted of the 17-year olds such as herself. Her 18th birthday was only weeks away and she was not looking forward to it. On her 18th birthday, she would be officially named the alpha of her pack and would take on the rest of the adult's children as her pack mates. Nora was her beta, and Sebastian was a warrior. Right behind her, Nora had already shifted and was padding ahead, her white highlights stuck out from her light brown coat. "Ok we make this fast and quick." She sent the thought to her pack mates. Nora you take the east side and circle back to the middle. Sebastian you take the west side and circle back to Nora. I will sweep the north and south." Sebastian's voice popped into her head. "If we finish patrol early, I'm going hunting." "Fine by me" she said to him. She padded off in the direction of the mountain peak taking great care in sniffing around the border for any strange scents. An hour later, she heard a howl in the direction of where Nora was supposed to be patrolling. "Oh crap," her legs started running in the direction of the howl. "What happened?" Her thoughts were interrupted when she smelled a human. She followed the scent to a clearing and saw Nora backing up into a corner while the human was getting closer. Nora looked over the humans side at her with a worried look. She heard Sebastian running toward the clearing. "Stop" She shouted to the wolf. "Don't let him see you. I got this." She stepped back a couple paces and howled, catching the humans attention. "Nora run. Now!" She heard Nora's paw steps take off in Sebastian's direction. Before she could change her mind, she shifted into her human form. Fangs extending, she bit into her arm. The human appeared just as she retracted her teeth to normal. "Are you hurt?" He bent down to inspect her arm. "No, I just startled a fox more then it startled me." Her instincts were telling her to get out of there. She needed to hurry up because she could feel the tingling in her arm as it slowly started to heal. She quickly came up with a lie, "I must hurry back to my family, before they get too far." "I can walk you back," he offered. "and tend to your wound as well." He looked at her arm. "No its fine. We have a first aid kit with us and my mom is a nurse. She will know what to do." "Okay. Be careful," he said helping her up. She walked back a little ways off from where she knew Nora and Sebastian were waiting for her. After she was away from the human, she hid behind a bush and shifted. "Did he hurt you?" Nora's voice held concern. "No, I was able to get out of there without any interactions." The wind picked up and she could faintly smell the human. "Let's get back. We need to tell the pack about this human before he ventures too far into the forest." "Agreed," they both said. The three wolves headed back to the house as the breeze carried on.
