Near the Water pt. 16
My heart was pounding, my head felt the urge to explode, I could feel someone's hands on my back, but was unable to see who. My main focus was not to hurt Raven.. Or anyone who may be lurking in the shadows. The main emotion that overwhelmed me was anger.. Anger over everything but I didn’t know what to do….
I felt veins from the side of my neck begin to appear adding more emotions the further they went, I could hear the screams from memories that didn’t belong to me, my whole body ached and screamed, I could no longer speak, but a calm voice reassured me that I was okay. I slowly began to calm down, but the aching pain remained the same.
Wounds from memories showed back up, open cuts, bruises, scars from whips, burn marks… Memories replayed again and again but this time they were mine. I was abandoned as a child to a general… A general I grew up calling my mother, who saved me from a sacrifice for power.
I was finally able to process, though the anger in my chest remained. I know what I am but I couldn’t name it… I was an experiment that betrayed its creator… I was a weapon that could be used for good or bad.. I was something that shouldn’t exist and yet does… I am the only one of my kind both created and born naturally.
My breathing was out of control, Raven still having his hand placed lightly on my back helped me to my feet. I stumbled but was caught by him instantly. The door suddenly swung open and in came about 20 other men, they looked angry, and unrelaxed.
One of them finally spoke, “ Hraefn, are you alright, has this thing done anything to harm you?” his voice raspy, I locked eyes with him, I still felt angry, the reflection of my eyes in his helped me understand the sudden fear that overwhelmed him. My eyes were blacker than the night sky without stars, or the moon to lighten its path.
Raven replied, “ She is a guest, and you shall treat her with the same respect you give me. If I find one scratch on her body or hear one comment I wouldn’t approve of life won’t be so calm for you.”
I was confused, he didn’t know me well and yet he’s already treating me with so much respect and kindness.
I looked up at him, my body still weak and even more fragile than before. I tried mumbling thank you but all I remember was seeing darkness yet again and the feeling of his hands gently wrapped around my waist holding me tightly against his chest….
