Chapter 7
Jackie, Peter and Lucy Chambers ran from the thirteenth room and stood in the hallway with their hands on their knees taking in deep lungsful of clean air.
“What happened in there?” choked Peter.
Sir Isaac and Lady Catherine materialised looking rather pleased with themselves. “If only the Shadow Flicker was not in too much of a hurry to leave the library, he would have found the book telling him about the curse.” said Sir Isaac.
“After he cursed us at his burning, our priest put his own curse on the Shadow Flicker; If a living decedent of the Harrowing family returned the heart, he would die the second death of fire.” Catherine confirmed.
“Clever.” Lucy replied.
Then, looking around Jackie asked, “Anyone seen Graham and Lily?”
Lady Catherine smiled as she opened the door to the library. All five of them peeped around the corner to see Lily and Graham sitting opposite each other, stealing a kiss across the table.
Jackie looked bewiled. “How is that possible, my son kissing a ghost?”
Lady Catherine just tapped the side of her nose. Then ushering all five of them away from the door, they went back downstairs.
As they walked, Lucy asked Lady Catherine. “So, where is the hidden treasure if it wasn’t in the thirteenth room?”
Lady Catherine looked down at Lucy placing a ghostly hand on her shoulder. “There are more places hidden within the thirteenth room.”
“Cool! Will you show me?”
Catherine patted Lucy’s arm. “Tomorrow.”
“I suppose, now the curse has been lifted you will all move on.” Peter asked Sir Isaac.
He attempted to place his arm around Peter. “We wouldn’t think of leaving you. Beside, looks like Lily has found herself a suitor and I don't think I could stand having her moaning at me for all eternity.”
They all agreed and laughter once more returned to Harrowing Hall.
