Why Did No One Save Abigail?
Abigail inhaled the thick, foggy air, savoring the taste and smell. She wasn't from around here, that much was obvious, but no one knew where she did come from. Her and that mysterious lake had a lot in common which might be why the locals stayed away from her.
She was a true beauty, with her deep brown hair cut into an adorable Bob. Her lips were always painted a faint pink and her cheeks were always blushed from the cold. She rarely wore shoes, and when she did she would take them off while walking outside. Many would describe her as odd, while others viewed her as a dream girl. At the end of day, it didn't matter. You shouldn't get close to her because one day the lake will take her away.
16 year old Abigail didnt seem to notice the shunning and even if she did she obviously didnt care. The whispers in the hall as she danced by had no effect on her. The locals rationalized this cruel behavior by saying it's only to protect themselves and their families, but no one warned her either. Not a soul in that down could muster the courage to help a clueless girl.
It was a Tuesday afternoon when Abigail skipped down to her her favorite spot by the lake. She savored the feeling of fine dand between her feet and the mist that brushed past her body. The ripples in the water seemed bigger today, which Abigail took notice of. She watched the water with curiosity as she sat the ground. For a few moments, everything was silent. No birds or cicadas chirped and the tiny waves had stopped. Naively, abigail thought it beautiful.
The water bubbled like a fire was ignighted under it. Her feet were immediately burned and she took them out screaming. Abigail stood up stared at her beloved lake with betrayal and confusion. Vines and algae seemed to crawl out of the water towards her at rabid speeds. Before she could even react, they had grabbed her and was being drug toward her death. She screamed as loud as she could but the townspeople just walked by without blinking an eye. Abigail tried to claw her way out but to no avail. She got in one big breath before being sucked in.
As the sun rose over the horizon, everyone in town gathered around the lake. One by one the each drank a handful of water, gulping it like it was the sweetest thing they had ever tasted.
