- Women in historic times had to work at home as well as in the farms for long hours for living (they still do), whereas the men used to work minimum. And during menstruation days, the women struggled a lot to work so much especially in farms, due to pain.

Asking men to work extra, expecting them to support women on those days so that woman could rest was a dream and the poor women kept slogging during these difficult times as well by working for long hours.

So what could the women or the sensible people during those time could do since convincing men was difficult!

This was the time when some sensible people back then came up with a concept of considering women as impure during those days, just to rescue women. They were asked to stay indoors, away from farm n kitchen, temple, etc. so that she could rest. However, in reality the woman is not impure, it's just that she need care, love n rest, but this was the easiest way to make the rigid men believe back then..

But with time, the core reason/ purpose of this concept was lost and many people, especially in rural areas have their self created custom n understanding on this n accordingly they treat a woman when she's menstruating.
