Struggling To Be A Better Man
Kendrick Morton,41 was born and raised in Berkeley, California on April 18,1979. He came against many life struggles earlier on, because he was born to two people that could never find their legal standing in life. They had been overmatched by addictions and the times. Woodstock and now his era. The crack and prostitution epidemic from the 80's to the mid 90's. Kendrick's father was a crack smoking pimp. And his mother was one of his father's prostitutes. She'd also, dib and dab in drugs to disassociate from the lifestyle she'd become accustomed to living.
Kendrick had learned numerous tricks and trades of survival from how he'd grown up and from the streets. He never had any parental guidance or structure when he was growing up or supported.
Kenderick's, had recognized himself that he was very articulate, observative, and self sufficient ,due to the fact he took to the fast lane and cash games of the streets very quickly. The lifestyle came to him easily. He also noticed, that he may have an addictive personality/habits disorder, like his parents. Something's that attracted him where a necessity to his living. But there were things, like violence and being in control, that amused and excited him at an abnormal level. That's probably why, by the time he was 10 years old,he had already joined a gang and lost his virginity to an older woman. He had been selling crack since he was 7, (that's including to his parents). But he had preferred to rob people(home invasions),and he'd gotten his nickname from the older cats in his section, for letting off rounds with no discretion. He was enumerated being a part of the statistically crime rate, and having his name in the streets. He used to do a lot of home invasions between 11 and 13. He basically stopped though because the risk of getting caught or murdered sometimes outweighed the pay. Who wants to risk their life continuously, on unpredictable pay?
Not Kendrick Morton, aka Killa Ken. So he focused and concentrated on making his living selling crack. He became what you called a person loitering on a corner or stoop,a Block boy, a Trappa. Or a Doughboy /Cornerboy. The cats with that depiction, stayed 10 toes to the ground, posted on they're block. Strapped with a gun, dope bagged tightly tucked under their tongue, and a bottle of Palm Springs water in their back pocket to keep their mouth lubricated, watching out for 12(the police) vice,or task force. Killa Ken, was from,
NorthOakland 63rd Street. Some of the cats he grew up with were from B-Town (Berkeley) 63rd Street and some were from, "ICE CITY," 63rd Street. Which is,(NorthOakland) because 63rd Street ran through both cities. Due to that he had several streets he could do his dirt on. 63rd Martin Luther King, 63rd King Street, 63rd California, The 63rd park. But Kendrick was strictly from 63rd and Market the storefront. Committed and Loyal to the block he lived all his life. He had grown up with 34 young men from 63rd. But only 4 were still alive that he really knew through and through to love truly. Or he believed would die with him,or for him. That had been tested throughout the years. They were known as the "Tray-Boyz". Doyle"Dirt"Brown,Ronni"Blacky"Jackson, Antwan"Shady A"Hines and John"JJ"James.
Kendrick, still felt like nobody really loved him, and of they did. It was only because of what he could do or would do for them. His trust level was so low and held so many negative element's that it further harshed or closed Kendrick's understanding to the thought of letting anyone or anything captivate him emotionally. His ability to fight off any inkling of positive emotions, was beginning to take its toll on him. He was building an anger in himself that he couldn't soothe or push down. It was becoming embedded in his mold. It was poisoning his motivation and drive.
Then Kenderick's met Tonya Farin's,when he was 21 years old. And she would become a force in his life. Things in him unspeakable and unpredictably shifted for the good. But furthermore, she would teach him how to trust, love, believe and much much more.
Kenderick's life started to change. He started to feel, see, know and believe that love and positive emotions really existed. And that what love he gave his gang, block and/or associates that were tied to that world would always be compromised and minimized, because of how he had met them. Don't get it wrong, he loved the "Tray-Boyz," that he grew up with. But all he mainly grew to know was how to reject emotional whims and remain cold and survive. That's one of the first street trades you have to learn and take very seriously. Kill the emotional shit or it can and will cost you your life. It is literally do or die,out there. It wasn't that hard for him to do. Do too the fact that he never got it from his parents anyway. Positive emotions were never taught to him. So recognizing when it was being genuinely given and not used as a deception was strange, and very foreign to Kendrick. But so was being...
