Lynn the Caterpillar
Wrote this children's story for an assignment in my Arabic class in college.
Once upon a time there was a little caterpillar who lived in the caterpillar neighborhood in the forest. The little caterpillar’s name was Lynn. Lynn was just like most other caterpillar’s her age. She loved to play in the forest with her friends.
كَانَ يَا مَا كَانَ هناك يرقة صغيرة وتسكون في الغابة في منطقة من اليسروع. أسمهان لين. وكانَ لين تماما مثل أليسوع أخرى سنها. وقالت تحب أن تلعب في الغابة مع صديقاتها.
One day Lynn woke up and felt very different. She looked in the mirror. She looked the same as she did yesterday.
يوم واحد استيقظ لينَ صعودا وشعر مختلفة جداً. وقالت انها تتطلع في المرآة. وقالت إنها نفسها كما فعلتُ امس.
She looked around her house. It also looked the same as it did yesterday.
وقالتُ انها تتطلع حلول منزلها. بدا الأمر نفسه كما فعل أمس أيضاً.
She went downstairs to her kitchen where her mother and father were cooking breakfast. Even her parents looked the same. Lynn was very troubled and upset. She couldn’t figure out why she felt so different.
ذهبتُ إلى الطابق السفلي مطبخها حيثُ والطب وجبة الإفطار. الديها بدأت نفسها أيضاً. وكان لين مستاءة للغاية لأنها لم استطع أن أعرف لماذا شعرت مختلفة جداً.
Her mother asked her why she looked so upset. Lynn explained that she just didn’t feel like a caterpillar anymore and that something had changed inside her. Her mother and her father were worried and confused. They assured her that she was born a caterpillar and so she was a caterpillar today and she would be a caterpillar tomorrow.
سالتها والدتها لماذا أنها مستاءة جداً. وأو ضح لين انها لا تشعر يرقة بعد الآن وكان شيء تغير داخل بلدها. وكانت والدتها ووالدها قلقة ومرتبكة. وأكدوا لها أنها ولدت يرقة. وكانت يرقة اليوم وقالت انها ستكون غدا يرقة.
That day Lynn went to school with her caterpillar friends and did her best to feel like a caterpillar. She ate her leaves at lunch and crawled along with her friends at recess, but she just couldn’t stop feeling that she had been changed.
ذلك اليوم ذهبت لين إلى المدرسة مع صديقاتها وفعل ما سعها ليشعروكأنه يرقة. أنها أكلتُ لها في الغداء وزحفتُ مع أصدقائها في استراحة لكنها لم تستطع التوقف عن بأنها كانت مختلفة.
Her friends assured her that she was a caterpillar just like everyone else. They did their best to make Lynn feel better but Lynn did not feel better. She wasn’t the same as everyone else and for the first time she didn’t want to be like everyone else.
أكد صديقاتها لها كانت يرقة مثل أي شخص آخر. حاولوا جعل لين يشعر على نحو أفضل لكن لين لم يشعر على نحو أفضل. انها ليستُ نفس صديقاتها وللمرة الأولى وقالت انها لا تريد أن تكون.
When she came home from school her mother and father greeted her in the same way they always did. They hugged her and kissed her and told her that they loved her. Her mother even cooked her favorite dinner, Passionflower leaves. Lynn tried to explain to her mother and father that she just didn’t feel like a caterpillar, and the something inside of her had changed but her parents did not understand. They told her that she had always been a caterpillar and that she would always be a caterpillar.
عندما جاء لين من المدرسة إلى البيت أمها وأبيها استقبلتها بنفس الطريقة التي فعلت دائماً. أنها عانقها وقبلها وقال لها أنه يحبها. المطنوخة والدتها عشاء المفضلة لديك، أوراق الشجر. حاول لين أن اشرح الديها بأنها لم أشعر يرقة وأن شيئا ما قد تغير داخل بلدها لكنهم لم يفهموا. قالوا لها أنها كانت دائماً يرقة وأنها ستكون دائماً يرقة.
Lynn finished eating dinner without speaking another word. She knew that her parents were trying to help her but she wanted them to understand. She went up to her room feeling more alone and sad than she ever had before. She decided that she would lock herself away until she felt like a caterpillar again.
أنها لين تناول العشاء دون أن يتحدث كلمة أخرى. وقالت إنها تعرف أن والديها كانا يحاولان مساعدة لها لكنها تريد منهم أن نفهم. وأعربت عن اعتقادها أكثر حده من أي وقت مضى وزهبت الطابق العلوي إلى غرفتها. قررت لين أنها سوف تغلق نفسها بعيدا حتى أنها شعرت يرقة مرة أجرى.
She created a tight cocoon around herself and sealed it shut. In her cocoon, she slept. When her parents came to her room to wake her for school, they were surprised to find the cocoon instead of Lynn. They begged Lynn to come out of the cocoon and join the caterpillar world again but Lynn refused. She explained that she would not come out until she felt like a caterpillar again.
وقالت أنها قدمت شرنقة حول نفسها وكانت مختومة أنها أغلقت. بينما كانت في شرنقة لها ينام لين. عندما جاء والديها إلى غرفتها ليوقظها لطلاب المدارس فوجئ أنها للعثور على شرنقة. فطلبوا لين للخروخ من شرفة لها لكنها رفضت. وأو ضح لين أنها لن يخرخ حتى شعرت مثل يرقة أخرى.
Day’s passed and Lynn stayed in the cocoon. She thought a lot about what she was feeling. She knew that she didn’t feel like a caterpillar but she wasn’t sure what she did feel like.
ومرت الأيام متتابعة نقي لين في شرنقة. فكرته كثيراً عن ما كنت تشعر. وقالت إنها لا تشعر مثل يرقة لكنها لم تكن تعرف ما قالت أنها تشعر.
One day, after several days of being in the cocoon, Lynn’s parents came to her and told her that they would love her no matter what she felt like inside. Lynn awoke from her dreamless sleep and began to cry. She realized that all she really wanted was to be accepted by her family and friends, not just as a caterpillar, but as Lynn and all that she was.
يوم واحد، بعد أن في فقة لعدة أيام، وجاء الآباء لين لعام وقالت لها أنها أحنوا لها، حتى لو يشعر وكأنه يرقة. استيقظ لين من نومها بلا أحلام، وبدأت في البكاء. أدركت أن كل ما أردته أن تكون مقبولة من قبل عائلتها وأصدقائها مهما كانت.
Lynn agreed to come out of the cocoon. She began to remove the wrappings little by little. As she did, she stretched out as though she had been asleep for years A.s she looked around her room she saw her parents staring at her in surprise. She asked them what was wrong? They were unable to speak and handed her a mirror instead. She took the mirror from her mother’s hands and gazed into the glass. What she saw was beautiful.
وافق لين للخروج من شرنقة. بدأت لإزالة شرنقة. كما خرجت، وقالت انها ممدودة كما لو أنها كانت نائمة لسنوات. كما قالت إنها تتطلع نحو غرفتها رأيت والديها يحدق وجهها في مفاجأة. طلبت منهم ما هو الخطأ. كانوا غير قادرين على الكلام حتى سلموا لها مرآة بدلا من ذلك. أخذت المرآة من يد والدتها وبدا في الزجاج. ما شاهدته كان جميلا.
Lynn was no longer a caterpillar like everyone else, she was a beautiful butterfly.
وكان لين لم يعد يرقة مثل أي شخص آخر، كانت فراشة جميلة.
Her mother and father hugged her and began to cry tears of joy. Lynn was the most beautiful thing they had ever seen.
بدأت الأم لين والأب في البكاء دموع الفرح. وكانت أجمل شيء شاهدوه أي وقت مضى.
Lynn knew what had changed inside of her, she was more than just a caterpillar, she had found her identity. She was a beautiful butterfly, but more than that she was happy to be herself.
فهم لين أخيرا لماذا شعرت مختلفة. وقالت انها كانت دائما أكثر من يرقة. كانت فراشة جميلة وأنها كانت سعيدة.
