Dear Son
*Dear son,*

When you were born, it was the most happiest day in my life. I always wanted a brother who would protect me, annoy me and correct me. But, maybe I wasn't lucky enough to have one. I didn't want my daughter to ever be deprived of that. In every prayer, I used to ask Allah to bless me with a son and a brother for my daughter.

As you started growing up, we had our share of ups and downs in our relationship. I realised that I needed to act like a friend with you rather than a demanding and commanding mother.

I always had this dream of seeing you as a successful lawyer. I wanted you to fight for the rights of woman and serve justice to whoever was right. The day you graduated was one of the memorable days of my life. I was proud when you spoke about how I inspired you in every step of your life. What else does a mother need when she hears such words? It felt like I have achieved the greatest milestone in my life.

As you are walking down the aisle today, my eyes are wet unknowingly.  No! It's not because of sadness but these are tears of joy. I would want to write something for you on this big day.

I would never want you to be a perfect son. But I would want you be a good husband.

I would never want any girl to suffer and point fingers on my upbringing. I want her to be proud of you and me.

Never make her cry because her tears would be responsible  for your failure.

Just like me and your sister, your wife too has a special part in your heart and life. She too has feelings and emotions. Just like how you respect us, you should respect her too. I hope you would give her that place, respect and care which she deserves. I know it's not easy to understand her. But as time passes, with love and care you can do it.

It's not always her responsibility to take care of the household chores. You too should equally take part in the chores.

Don't ever think that just because you are a man you can insult any woman. No! That's not done! Both men and women are creations of God. So they should be treated equally with respect.

Never judge any human being based on their looks and richness. What matters is their character and conduct.

And lastly,  wherever you go and whatever you do always be true to yourself. That's the greatest gift which you will be giving me. I am, will and would be with you whenever you are in need of me.

Hope you would read and keep my words with you. I wish you happiness in this new journey of life.

With love,
Your maa.
