Breathing In Place Of Anger
On Wednesdays, Living Faith Church a.k.a Winner’s Chapel holds weekly services at all zonal centres across the nation by 6pm to 8pm. It is a place in which every dedicated member of the church gather to receive the communion.

As a member of the church, I also leave the comfort of my home or close the boutique my family runs to attend. I don’t go alone, actually, but, with the members of my family who are at home at the time.

It’s quite a normal occurrence and nothing untoward happened until last week Wednesday.

We’ve just closed from service and we were taking a walk back home as usual but then, my cousin remembered that she had to buy drugs for our grandma who had been complaining of severe pain on her thighs. Of course, we all had to rotate anti-clockwise towards the direction of the pharmacy which was by the main road.

I wasn’t really excited about this because I was tired and I needed to sit down. But I didn’t have a choice either, family first. Though I didn’t like the walk to the main road, I still cracked jokes and generally behaved goofy and silly. Everyone was happy.

On getting to the pharmacy, my cousin went in to buy the drugs while I and mom decided to get some fruits from our customer. We bought some mangoes which made me excited. The little tweak in our journey was worth it after all, if it meant getting those juicy mangoes. Oh, my God. Yummy.

Kids will be kids. No matter our age, there is still something of a child in us. We just need to connect to it.
My cousin got the items at the same we finished the exchange with the fruit seller. We joked around as we walked back home. But something stalled us in our tracks.

Right in front of us was a catastrophe. Heavily armed security personnel from the police station near the bustop surrounded a jeep, while spitting out angry words at the occupants.

On a closer inspection, we found that it was actually our church member who was at the receiving end of the treatment. Mom crossed the road to buy pepper from a cart pusher, all the while watching the scene unfold.

A couple of people were fused to the scene too. It was like a live drama and we all know how people reacts to those things.

What we all picked was, our church member went through one-way. He was plainly at fault. But to him, he wasn’t at fault. He claimed that there was no evidence to label the misdemeanor on him. He was really upset which triggered the officers to more intense rage.

Finally getting the peppers, my mom walked to the scene and tried her best to reason with the officers. They seemed to cave in. We were all relived until our church member made a comment in anger.

This only made the issue ten times worse than it was before. The officers seized the vehicle and plied the occupants to the station. That was the beginning of a long night but the end of the spectacle.

MY THOUGHTS ~

This situation could be settled easily without going nasty. It’s either a fine would be paid or you actually apologise and if the officer’s are kind enough, they might let you go.

Fighting with an officer in such a nasty way, does nothing but put one in harm’s way.

If you’re so angry, that you see red, breathe. It helps to make sense of the situation and bring your thoughts into perspective.

Anger doesn’t solve anything but makes things worse.
