Love, Divorce and Everything else
Chapter 10: Ryan
It's been 6 months since Ryan and Myra had been dating, and they enjoyed every moment of it. Myra had still not disclosed her secret that she has a young daughter. Even though her mother had continuously asked her to, she kept avoiding it, either because she was scared of losing him or still did not trust him enough. Ryan knew there was something that Myra was not sharing with him and tried assuring her that she could trust him with anything. Even so, Myra could not overcome the fear of jeopardizing Emma's safety. Many times she was almost about to tell him, but something inside her stopped her. Myra's mother told her to disclose the truth before it's too late, and Myra agreed. She planned to invite Ryan to meet her at the restaurant they had first met at and share the truth. She planned to tell him everything next week. Since it was Emma's birthday next month, she wanted to tell him about her. If he agreed, she planned to invite Ryan to Emma's birthday, but if things did not work out And he walks away, she would still have time to recover from her heartbreak and move on.
Ryan just drove back home from an amazing dinner with Myra and couldn't stop smiling. He tried unlocking the door but found it was already open. He slowly walked in, and it was dark. He could only see a distant light lit up in his bedroom. Suddenly, he turned around as he felt someone was watching him and saw two figures sitting on the sofa in the corner. He shouted, 'Who is it?' Suddenly, one of the figures reached for the lamp next to the sofa, and the room was illuminated. It was Margaret and Jake, Myra's ex-husband and mother-in-law. Margaret got up from the sofa, walked towards him, and asked, 'How are you, Ryan?' Ryan gave her a kiss on her cheek, hugged her, and said, 'I am good, Aunt Margaret. What a pleasant surprise to see you both.' Margaret replied, 'Yes, a surprise indeed. But we are yet to find out if you would call it pleasant or not.' Well, what is your progress? And what's taking so long?
Ryan responded well. She is still hesitant to share anything. I tried many, many times, but she is not opening up about her family and not yet ready. On hearing this, Jake got angry, got up from the sofa, and rushed towards Ryan. He said, 'That is because you are not trying hard enough. Are you with her now? Did you forget who your family is? You had nothing; your parents were dead, and my mom took pity on you, looked after you, and this is how you repay us? Taking that woman to your strawberry farms, you useless pathetic farmer.' Jake then turned towards Margaret and said, 'I am telling you, Mom, these two are sleeping together, and he is in love with her. Probably they are planning some kind of game, and they are up to something.' Margaret tried to calm Jake and said, 'Now, don't be nasty to your cousin, Jake; he very well knows his place and who his family is, right, Ryan? You wouldn't betray your own family now, would you?'
Ryan looked down and was sad and worried and said no, Aunt Margaret.
Margaret: Good boy. So now tell me, what is taking so long? Are you really in love with that little witch?
Ryan: No, Aunt Margaret. But I am trying my best.
Margaret: Well, your good is not just good enough now, is it? All I asked you to do was to find out who that little girl was and if she belongs to my Jake. I have a room full of lawyers waiting to take her and her family down.
Ryan asked, just out of curiosity, Aunt Margaret, who told you about a little girl? I mean, Myra hadn't said anything about it, and I don't think someone can keep a big secret like that hidden, right?
Margaret smiled and said, "Well, that pathetic woman thinks she is smart, huh? One of my friends who knew her came to this town a few months ago and saw her with a little girl, roaming around, shopping, and all. She took a picture and sent it to me. I could instantly tell, looking at her, she looks like my Jake, and she is hiding her from her father." That moment, I decided she belongs to us.
Ryan: But Aunt Margaret, why would you want her? I mean, Jake has 2 boys. Anyway, you have other grandchildren. Isn't it a good thing he didn't have to pay a penny for divorce or for child support? And how do we even know for sure it's his daughter or if she even exists? Maybe she was taking care of the girl at that time for a family member or a friend.
Margaret: Well, I know, no matter how smart that little witch thinks she is, she is just not smart enough. That's why you came into the picture. Now that they are divorced, he cannot go there. She will just get a restraining order or deny, saying it's not her child or she belongs to someone else, or anything that she could think of. But if she confesses and you get her confession along with a DNA proof for the girl, that witch is finished.
As for why I want her? That good-for-nothing witch made my son fall in love with her first, cunning little thing she is, and then walked out on him instead of supporting us financially. we let her in our family and she destroyed my son and i am simply looking forward to return the favour now is that too much to ask for?
Ryan: But aunt Margaret Jake had moved on and was married again and had 2 boys now going back to her to destroy what will you two gain out of it.
Margret: For sheer pleasure ofvwatching that witch destroyed and for the fact thst if i have control over her daughter means i can make her do anything i want even make her beg or better lick my feet. Now wont you let your old aunty Margret have that Ryan.
Ryan did not know Jake and his aunt had plans to ruin Myra and he was worried for her.
Ryan was 11 when his parents passed away in an accident and all his relatives declined to take him in except his aunt Margaret. She agreed to kerp him with the condition that he has to do the household chores everyday to earn his meals and also has to maintain a good score at school or she will send him to an orphanage. When Ryan turned 18 she asked him to leave her house, he was always scared of her but thankfull that she took him in.
After Ryan left Margaret's house, he went to stay at a friend's place. He was already working part-time, which he started working full-time and started saving money. He got himself through law school thanks to the money his parents had kept safe for him in a trust fund through his family lawyer, Mr. Wilkinson. Mr. Wilkinson also encouraged Ryan to go to law school, as he was a bright student, rather than spending the money on other things. Margaret and her husband had tried to influence Ryan to give the money to them until the time he received the money, but when he said he wanted to study further and use the money for his education, they asked him to leave and broke all contact with him.
