The Festival
#WritcoStoryPrompt42
She chose her cleanest piece of clothing to wear. It was a festival after all and she wanted to celebrate with everyone else. When she stepped into the street a speeding car drove by splashing dirty water on her.

A tear fell down her cheek. The poor had no right to celebrate. All she wanted today was a nice time for herself, free from all the scolding and scathing looks passed to her from her employers. She started to head back home, her shoulders slumped in defeat when she heard her name.

"Anika." She turned around, wondering who had called her.

"Anika." the voice called again. She looked back and saw her best friend, Omkara, who stood, standing fresh as ever on the other side of the road.

She gave him a small smile as he made his way over to her.
"Where were you going? Aren't you coming to the Holi festival?" she gave him a sad smile.

"I was on my way over, but a car splashed dirty water on me. I have nothing to wear now."

"Hey, that won't be important. I doubt anyone will take notice of you. You will be covered in different colours, who will notice the dirt?" he encouraged. She realised he was right. No one will even pay attention to her.

Figuring out that she had spent her time brooding over something not important, she held on to her best friends arm and they made their way towards the festival.
