Three Months
Chapter Eight

Lauren’s eyes widened.

“What! Are you for real right now!?

Damien said nothing but simply released the button, waving at her with a cynical smile forming on his lips as the doors began to close.

Lauren approached the closing door with a troubled look.

“Sir, this isn’t fair! How do you expect me to get up there!?” She yelled stepping back, darting her eyes from side to side and then up at the digital screen above and saw that it had begun counting past the first floor.

Seeing that her only option was the staircase, Lauren grunted in frustration and mused,

“This man is going to be the death of me.” and took to the stairs, passing the 1st floor cussing him as she made her way through the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, floor.

Feeling exhausted, as Lauren climbed the 8th floor stairs, she tripped, spraining her ankle. She stopped, holding onto the sprained ankle groaning at the excruciating pain. With only one floor left, she got up struggling till she finally made it up to the 9th floor.

Meanwhile, Damien had already gotten off the elevator and was already standing in the middle of the hallway waiting to see her.

The stairwell door swung open and he saw Lauren walking into the hallway slowly. He scoffed uttering the words,

“Too slow…” before heading into his office.

Lauren slowly made her way into the secretary’s office and sat on her chair trying to treat her sprained ankle.

Damien turned on the surveillance camera from the computer inside his office. He observed her movement carefully as she struggled to move from her chair to the window.

“A sprained ankle…?” He mused as he reached out for his phone, and called her.

“Hello sir?” Lauren answered with a slightly pained voice.

“Come into my office right now.” He said and the line was disconnected.

‘God, will this torture never end? What does he want again? As if running through those stairs wasn’t enough. Now, he wants me in his office.’ She thought and hissed in pain getting up approaching Damien’s office and knocked.

“Enter.” His deep voice barked and she heaved a heavy sigh before walking inside, and came to stand before his desk.

“Yes sir.”

“Get me a cup of coffee.”

“Yes sir.”

Damien watched as she strode slowly towards the table by the window to prepare his coffee and brought it to him.

It took a great deal of effort to not spill the coffee in her hand as she didn’t want to get into trouble or get yelled at by Damien again.

“Here’s your coffee, sir.” Lauren said placing the cup before him.

“Is there anything else you need, sir?”

“What’s wrong with you?”

“Nothing sir…” She answered quietly.

“Okay, you may leave.”

“Excuse me, sir.”

Damien knew that she had sprained her ankle however; he said nothing but watched to see how she will manage to walk out. Lauren turned to the door with a pained expression, and slowly began to walk, straining the sprained ankle even more, hissing quietly in pain.

Just then she lost her balance, feeling her body fall.

“Oh no!”

She uttered and closed her eyes shut bracing for the impact she was about to feel.

Suddenly, a long silence engulfed the office.

‘Hmm…?’
