Loyalty, The Outcome of Love: Chapter 5
There's no need to pretend that I don't know him. Drama is what I hate the most.

I refocused myself on my work and grabbed his garnier to scanned it. I put it inside a small paper bag, but didn't give it to him yet.

He should pay first.

"This would be $3.39, sir."

He unexpectedly laughed.

"So that means you remember me!" he said. His smile lingered on his face for a second, then it faded when he raised his eyebrows. "There's no, 'Oh yeah! I remembered you...vaguely haha', atleast?" he asked while trying to imitate a girl's voice.

I tried hard not to roll my eyes. "Anything else, sir?" I asked and waited for him to give his pay.

"Sir? Don't call me that, silly! Haha!"

Maybe he expected me to laugh too. But I didn't.

So he's looking at me like he finally realized that I will not ride on him. He nodded several times and instead of paying, he instead put another 3 items on the counter and crossed his arms. "So, did my father look for me," he asked.

I unintentionally looked at him with a pitiful yet mocking smile on my face. I just couldn't help myself because I was surprised with his question. Is that why he's so casual and feeling close to me? I remembered how he reasoned out himself too much while his outside the resto bar that night. Now, he really looks like a hopeful child, who's begging hard to get his parent's attention. I didn't answer him though and just scanned all the other items he gave me.

"$7.04, sir," I said to him. "Would this be all sir," I asked him. Just to make sure he gets all of what he needs.

He's still looking me in the eye then looked down for a moment. I saw him grin though and I don't know what's the meaning of it. He looked up and looked for another item, a chewing gum. He put one pack on the counter.

"Come on! That's not that hard to answer. So did he look for me," he asked again.

Seriously?

I ignored him once again and scanned his items. And just when I finished scanning his gum, he put down another one gum.

This guy!

I glared at him. But, he just smiled to me!

I sighed.

"I don't know who's your father, okay? I just went there to used a restroom and didn't care about other's businesses."

He wore a face that didn't believe with my lies and combed his hair in a really manly way. He licked his lower lip and said, "Nice act! But, I saw your employee's ID, your guitar, and your casual dress up that day. You saw me with my bandmates, so I know that you know that we are performers and as performers we of course know that you're a performer too just by looking at you." He stood straight and put his hand in his pockets. "Plus, that's a resto bar and the guard didn't even asked for your name just like what he did to me."

*beep

I scanned his gum.

When I saw a customer walking towards the line, I sighed, looked at him, and tried to control my irritation.

"Once again, sir," I emphasized the sir again, "I don't care about the business of other people. I really hate explaining myself, especially to people like you," I said in a mocking way, "but I don't have any answer to your question, simply because I don't care about my surrounding and hate involving myself to people. So... would this be all? There's another customer behind you, waiting for you to pay all this items and, leave."

He looked back as if not believing on what I told him.

Huh! Really?

"Hate involving herself?" he mumbled before turning back to me. "Yeah, that would be all," he confirmed.

"$11.92."

He gave me a 20 dollar bill and said, "Keep the change."

I disagree with that, but he already give way to another customer. Though this customer waited for a quite time, I can see the curiosity on her face instead of irritation. She put down her items one by one while looking back and forth to him and me, as if waiting for the next scene of us that she wants to witness.

Tsk. Nosy.

"Good morning, ma'am! I'm sorry for the inconvenient," I told her.

"Oh! Haha! No worries, no worries!"

I was hoping that everything would get better once the guy leave already. But when he was about to go out the door, his phone rang.

Some of the customer don't care, but some and, especially, this one in front of me, looked at him.

"Hey, what's up?....," I heard him chuckled. "me? I'm all good bro... yeah, I found her... of course I won't let her go,"

That sentence made me looked at him and I didn't expect to meet his eyes. I saw him grin and said, "You know me. Everyone who are already involved in my life," he pushed the door then continued, "can't escape me." He winked at me before he left.

*cringed

"Oh my! Hahaha! Young generation nowadays are so blatant about their feelings! Would you please add this one, sweetheart?" said the nosy customer.

What is wrong with that guy?

I didn't mind what this customer in front of me said. But damn! She just can't stop herself from giggling even if she already goes out the store.

She's annoying.

No, that guy, he's more annoying.

There's only two customers left. I'm still waiting for Danilo to change shift with him.

A few minutes later, I heard the bell on the door indicating someone came in. And when I see Danilo, I let out a long sigh.

He looked at me with his narrow eyes as if not expecting my greetings to him.

"What's with the long sigh, Raff? School hasn't started yet, but you looked stress already? "

I chuckled.

His presence always make me smile, always make my heart at ease.

I wear off my uniform and tossed it under the counter. "Nothing," I said. But he tilted his head as if not believing on what I said. I gave him an assuring smile and said, "Just tired and sleepy. Yeah, that's all." I tapped him on his shoulder. "I need to go. I'll be late in my first day if I will stay here longer."

I passed by him, thought that this work will end just like that, but he grabbed my hand. I turned to face him and saw him looking at my hand, at our hands. When he hold it tight and cares it, I took my hand back. I'm embarrassed of the calluses I got from playing guitar.

Because of what I did he step back and hold on to his nape like what he's always doing whenever he get shy.

"Ahm, goodluck to your first day and.... i-if you ever need my help... just, just call me... I ah promise to come and help you."

He's blushing. He can't look at me directly.

He's a college student, too. But unlike me, who's a second year student, he is a fourth year and will soon graduate from his school. We're not entering the same university this time. Yes, we were schoolmate before. He was a second year student that time, while I'm on my first year. I'm supposed to be a third year student this school year. But I needed to stop on my second year and work three part time jobs for a year to support my sister and save up money to enter college again. I'm not entering a university though. My school is just a community college. My savings aren't enough to support my study that's why I applied for a student aid and luckily get approved.

I know what he feels about me. Not because there were people who likes me before too and I saw all of their tactics to get to experience a relationship even if it's not serious. It's because... that's what I feel about him, too.

But,

"Thanks! But you know... that I don't need anyone's help." I smiled before I go.

No one is really certain about the people they like. There were lovers who promised to be together and married in front of the altar to become one, but still get separated because they realized that they don't love their partner anymore. So it only means that LOVE DO FADES.

Yes, it do.

Because me and my sister did witness it...

from our parents.
