THE LAST HOPE

..............
EPISODE 2

As I drove through the road that linked through Ecobank, heading straight to the bank at a high speed. Out of the blue, a black Toyota Honda drove out from behind the street and halted my way.

Two bulky men abruptly hopped out of the car with 'A-K 47' in their hands. "Stop that car, if you move I blow off your tyre." One of the muscular blasts at me. No one needed to tell that he meant his words.

Fear gripped me immediately, I stopped the car and gently stepped out. I was panting and pleading for my life to be spared.

"What have I done wrong to deserve this? Please don't kill me, I am the only son of my parents, please spare my life and let me go." I began to sob bitterly.

"Stop making noise you fool. If you make any sound, I blow off your head. Is something wrong with your brain?" He commanded. "Where is the money?" he requested with a voice full of authority.

"Which money are you people talking about?" I pretended.

"Are you asking me that stupid question? Oh, now I see why you think we are here to joke with you. Maybe because I am trying to be nice with you, for the second time, where's the money?" he fired.

"Please I don't know what money you are talking about," I interjected and just then, a dirty slap landed on my cheek 'kpa' and I felt my eyes turning up and down.

A blow landed on my stomach 'kpo' my legs wobbled as I slightly collapsed to the ground wincing out in agony and pain. "Please don't do this to me, please," I cried my eyes out.

"A stubborn fly always follows his ancestors to the grave, a fowl who goes close to the fire should be ready to be roasted before his time." The dark tall guy spoke elegantly in parables which I find hard to read.

"Please spare me those parables. Spare my life and let me go," I pleaded one more. But it seemed all my pleading fell on deaf ears. They quickly opened the back of the car and took the money.

They collected the car key from me and took the car with them. I was left there in the middle of the road. I cried, a little while I saw them driving towards me.

"You stubborn fool, I don't think you really deserve to be alive. You need to be wasted, when you get to the other part of the world don't forget to greet my late grandparents." he said as he pulled his trigger and aimed the gun at me. The moment he attempted to fire the bullet at me.

I abruptly woke up from my dream. I became terribly scared the moment I realized it was all a dream. What kind of horror dream was that? I asked but referring to no one in particular. I have never had such a terrible dream in my entire life.

Soon, I took my mind off from the dream because most times people dream and it never comes to pass. Maybe that dream was just trying to scare me from making my dream come true.

I have come a long way in the city and I was going to be settled any moment from now. My first target is to go home and make my parents proud because it has been years we haven't seen each other. I need to make daddy and mommy proud.

I quickly had my bath and got dressed for work. I was appointed one of the chief executive treasurer and was in charge of all the money accountable in the company. They trusted me enough due to my rare access and dedication to my duty.

When I got to the office, I noticed that everyone was carrying a long face. I tried to find out what was the matter but my instinct didn't permit me. So I kept it in my mind and did my usual duty.

Though, in my heart I sense all was not well. Everyone gave me a black eye that I can not understand. I was still busy recording the sales when Cynthia, the office secretary came to inform me of an urgent meeting.

"Nobody is really smiling today. Please can you tell me what is the matter?" I asked, but instead she hissed.

"You'll definitely find out yourself during the meeting," she responded and left the office. From the way she answered me I knew there was fire on the mountain.
