women's consent : Her birthright
Before the abolition of sati in 1829,there was a heated debate about this practice between Orthodox men and male reformers whether a woman could consent to burying herself on her husband's funeral pyre.

Orthodox said - she burns herself out of her own will and pleasure to counter it raja ram mohan roy said, no she goes through horrendous violence, tied up in woods and then burnt. There is no question of consent.

Be it consent or not, the problem is this act is directed only for their husband and it's not reciprocated. If it were for a woman, no husband would have burned himself into her pyre. so it means the woman is obliged to do something unimaginably painful that only for the sake of her husband. It also conveys that husband is absolute supreme for women.

It not only arises the question of women consent that had been lacking since ancient days but only the dilemma that women used to face.Be it widow remarriage or sabrimala, women are still fighting for her rights from the people who formed it without asking her consent, her will.

similarly now women's consent shouldn't be marginalized but instead be heard and respected. Be it saying no to undesirable people or fighting for our rights or speaking out during martial rapes.
we as a women should distinguish between a desirable kind of consent and actual process through which consent is formed. consent is dissolved and consent is withold.
