We have heard different messages on how that we have to be violent in order to take what belongs to us by force, our blessings and inheritance.
The above verse is not a verse for warfare per se or for the recovery of spoils or hijacked property from the enemies.

So, since when John started preaching to the world on "Change your mind, the kingdom of heaven is available." The kingdom suffering violence explains how that men heard the message of John on the Kingdom (Christ), they came running for repentance.

The Living Translation interprets that verse this way,
"And from the time John, the Baptist began preaching and baptising until now. Ardent (passionate) multitudes have been crowding toward the kingdom of Heaven."

John understood the move of the Spirit that was why he could preach a singular message (repent, for the kingdom is at hand) and men came rushing from Galilee and Judea for that message.
