Believe in Yourself !
Rishika was a very bright student and a people pleaser. She had cleared a very challenging exam and was working for an MNC after successful completion of the course. However, after working for a few months, she realised that the work she was doing did not interest her at all. Having no interest, she was facing difficulty in coping with the work assigned to her. After thinking a lot about what she could do, she talked to her brother and friends about it. They supported her and asked her to take a firm decision soon, before it got too late. She decided she would quit her job and start preparing for XYZ exams. She was happy that she could overcome this dilemma. But little did she know how difficult the coming days were going to be.
Rishika, somehow, convinced her parents and explained them why she did not want to continue her job. They agreed to it and supported her. A couple of days before she was about to quit her job, she received a phone call from one of her uncles, who believed that she had lost her mind and was taking a very wrong move. This made her reconsider her decision. "Am I doing the right thing!" she asked her brother. He replied, "Yes dear. Of course, you are doing the right thing.". Seeing her tensed, he comforted her. Few days later she resigned and started preparing for her exams.
One evening, she attended a function along with her family members. She was delighted to meet her cousins and relatives after a long time. After a while, a relative approached her, asked her about her health and what she was doing. She told her, but again as she expected, her relative was not happy with her decision and asked her why she was doing it. She offered her an explanation but the lady did not look convinced. Having tried to convince her, but in vain, she took her leave but suddenly she realised that she was the talk of the town. Almost all the people in the function were talking about the decision she had taken and only a few seemed to be supportive. She was perturbed.
On the way back home, she gazed out of the window, eyes filled with tears, wondering if she was really doing something wrong. Her brother saw her and asked, "Rishika, Forget about everyone. Are you happy about your decision?". She answered," Yes, but...!". Her brother interrupted, "But nothing, you have to believe in yourself. See, the world is full of people and people are full of opinions. It is you; your life and you have the right to do whatever you want to do. When you were suffering and doing that job, was anyone there to support you?". She said, "No.". He continued, " Who are they to tell you what you should do and what you shouldn't. You are an independent girl and have every right to make your own decision. Just believe in yourself and we are always there to support you." She realised what her brother was saying was indeed true. She hugged him and said, "I know it is not going to be easy but I believe in myself. And no matter what other people say, I will abide by the decisions that I have taken. Because it really makes me happy and keeps me motivated. Thank you, brother. Thank you so much for supporting me."
