The email he has received today is marked urgent. But it's from a friend who died two years ago.
It caught him off guard, spooked him in fact. Kevin hadn't been thinking about anything except getting his work done so he could leave early. A momentary thought of "Should I open it?" flashed across his mind, but he was not superstitious and began to wonder what it was and who the real source behind it was. Had to be a logical explanation. In a well practiced motion the young teacher clicked on the email. It simply read "Remember, don't forget to stop by on your way home. I'd rather talk about it in person."
His mind stopped working for a minute, then he came back. That was the same message his best friend had left on his answering machine that day. Kevin had not heard his office phone ring and had shut down his computer to leave early. He remembered because his friend since grammar school had died in a car accident that afternoon. When he heard the message play days later he had cried before he erased it.
Sadness and anger took over and Kevin got up to leave. He hadn't finished checking his students' exams and forgot to take them....
