PAY IT FORWARD

Once upon a time, there lived a grasshopper and an ant. The grasshopper and the ant were neighbors and good friends even though they were very different. The grasshopper liked to live in the moment and not plan for the future, he liked to spend his days making jokes and taking it easy, the ant on the other hand was very hardworking and diligent, he liked to plan ahead and was a hard worker compared to his friend the grasshopper, still they got along fine.

The two friends noticed that there was a storm headed their way. The ant sprung into action, he quickly sent his pregnant wife to her parents across the river and began preparing for the storm. The ant stocked up on food, and made sure his house was well protected against the coming storm, the grasshopper on the other hand did nothing of the sort even though his friend the ant advised him to.

A horrible storm did come and the grasshopper had done nothing to prepare for it. For the first few days the grasshopper was alright but he soon ran out of food and his house began to get flooded. The grasshopper headed for his friend’s home, begging for shelter and sustenance. The ant wanted to turn him away because he refused to listen to him but didn’t, instead he invited the grasshopper in and even made him a nice warm meal. When the storm passed, the ant was informed that his wife was in labor and about to have his children. The ant headed toward his wife’s direction but alas the storm had washed away the bridge over the river, he was stuck. The ant began to cry as he thought about how he was going to miss the birth of his children and headed home. He was met by the grasshopper who asked him why he had returned so quickly and the ant told him how the only bridge had been washed away and how as a result he was going to miss the birth of his children but the grasshopper had an idea. He asked the ant to go back to the river side and together they threw heavy rocks into the river to serve as stepping stones, then the grasshopper asked the ant to get on his back, hesitantly the ant got on the grasshopper’s back and held on tight. The grasshopper with its long and powerful legs jumped from stone to stone till they had fully crossed the river.

“Thank you so much dear friend, because of you I’ll make it to the birth of my children “ said the ant

“ My pleasure, this is my way of thanking you for helping me during the storm, always pay kindness forward “ replied the grasshopper

With that the ant headed off to witness the birth of his children.

The End.
