Sharing My Take On Grief

Grief there are lots of reasons for it.
It is a chapter in everyone’s book of life.
There are no shortcuts, and there are no easy ways around it.
No two individuals can share the same experience.
Each stage of this lesson has to be endured by each individual at some point in their life.

There are no time limits on how long it should last and no rules to follow.
Each event that resulted in causing grief has to be faced, and for as long as it takes, to find some closure.

Time doesn’t stop because of grieving in the world of the living.
The living has to continue to live.
Grief is painful,
soul-shattering and scary.
Each stage is difficult.
Words like sadness, hopelessness, tormenting, anguish and emptiness all are staring you in the face, sending you into a foggy state.
Leaving you feeling numb, helpless and even confused.

We excluded words like happiness, joy, love, laughter and fun which is unfair to the people around us and ourselves.
A birthday, a wedding, a promotion or the birth of a child are all events to celebrate, but we miss out because we are grieving.

Time heals, the heart will adjust, and when the realisation hits you that you are still alive, you will continue somehow to carry on with task of living.

Grief is a painful lesson we have to endure, but it also teaches us to appreciate, not take things for granted, and to be grateful, tolerant and caring.
I recall the sayings:
“ Here today, gone tomorrow”,
and
“Nothing lasts forever “.
