The bridge between us

Within the darkest hour of night, I toss and turn until the silence drowns me within it's whirlwind. Dragging me under to a place so quiet that nothing can be heard, the Netherrealm. The In-between world, the unseen bridge where dreamers cross over to either the field of light and love or to field darkness and pain.

Here I stand alone as the guardian to direct the dreamers souls where they need to go. My duty is simple, I do not choose what dreams you have as your dreams are dictated by your actions, by your kindness, by your hatred and by your soul's fire. My job was simple and I took pride in doing it, never once considering the passage of time until the day you came along. The curious, questioning child with a mind so unique that you left me confounded, surprised and questioning my purpose.

Your insatiable curiosity lead me astray and I took you on a tour of both realms. First into the field of light and love, I showed you the highlights from the most kind and most loving of hearts and your response to each was so unique and different from what I would ever have considered that it made me pause to think. And yet I disregarded it, for I was told millennia ago what the paths are...

Then I showed the girl the field of darkness and pain. The little girl once again surprised me with her reaction, when I assumed her reaction was fear and loathing she reacted emphatically and understanding beyond her years. What should have been the scariest of dreams made her feel an overwhelming sense and need to fight along side the dreamer. And the most violent of dreams made her want to hug the dreamer and let them know that they are seen and loved, that they can change their future. Their lives do not belong to those who have harmed them. No I stand at my post lost, since now I no longer understand my purpose in it's true essence for who am I to judge the dreamers and their dreams when I have never lived their lives nor experienced their pain and joy that made them who they are now. Who am I to judge who they become when all I do is fuel who they currently are?
