Consciousness
Consciousness exists everywhere like space and light. Only the instrument it passes through changes its forms such as living and non living things. Therefore, consciousness not only exists but also the same in living and non living things, only the composition at the atomic level changes its actions.
Space exists within us and beyond us. We travel through space, we don't just carry space. Therefore, our death does not destroy the space within us, it only dissolves with the existing space. Same happens with consciousness.
The light from the sun and the reflected light are the same, only the source is different. Light exists even in darkness, because we are not able to perceive it as it is not reflected in any object in the dark. Therefore the existence of light is independent of our perception but we as humans can perceive only when our instruments, such as eyes and physical objects or gas exist.
We as humans live far away from understanding true consciousness by living in memory and sensation. The consciousness we have is the consciousness of something, not the consciousness itself. Through meditation we can only perceive the content of consciousness which is the breath, not memory or sensation. But spirituality and upanishads teach us to explore beyond meditation where we can understand consciousness without doing anything, there is silence only, no action or reaction. It is a work on thoughts, not working through thoughts, such as physical exercise is a work on the physical body, not working with the help of the body. Questioning what is thought, what is mind, instead of how it works and what can be done with it leads to the path of spirituality.
At the atomic level and in consciousness level, we are not only similar but also same, only difference comes from thought and appearance. Thus, there is no particular me that is different from other people, animals, plants, nature or universe, we all are one. Once we understand it, we can be free from the concept of “I” or “ego”. Usually when we are the center or related to an event, the thought generated from it makes us more anxious than those which does not affect us. Understanding who is “us” involved in the whole thought process, can make us free from any reaction we may generate for the event, yet the event and thought happen as usual.
Consciousness is formless, infinite, omnipresent, yet it is not the doer of the things. Everything happens according to the laws of nature.
