Have you ever wondered how quickly life turns dark when people lose hope? Looking back at what this relationship was like before, I was devastated to think about how good it was back then. Now, I only feel regret and no longer find happiness whenever I see the picture of the man who broke my heart. I was still fine, but not every time I saw the sadness in the eyes of my child. I didn’t deserve this, nor did she.

➵ This microfiction is about a married woman who’s now separated from her husband. Upon thinking deeply and reflecting about what her husband did to her, she finds herself hurt, but not because of his betrayal; she’s hurt by the thought of a broken home. She pities her daughter for ending up without a father figure. They both deserve better.  

The story touches on the emotional and psychological effects of divorce and separation, and how it can affect the entire family.
