Sugar's Tea part 1
Sugar
The Trunk
I’ve been bumping around in this trunk for hours. Yes, more than enough time for me to come to terms with the obvious. My fiancé or should I be saying my ex-fiancé wants me dead. Tip to self, if you make it out of this alive; never sleep with your drug dealing fiancé ‘s brother and maybe reevaluate your taste in men.
I can honestly say I’ve never had much luck with dating or maybe it’s that I don’t have much luck with men. For instance, the summer of my 17th birthday I was head over heels with the new boy from up the street. Now mind you we’d been dating 2 weeks when my father was released from jail. So I decide to bring my new boo to Granny Cherry’s house to meet them both. Granny greets him but my dad is like
“Um I thought you said his name was Ricardo.”
“Oh, no,” I say with a little chuckle. “I totally forgot I said that to you. No, it’s just a little joke between us. But Daddy, his real name is Desi.” This is when he looks me dead in the face and yells, “yeah, I see that Suga. Whatever y’all got going on... STOP! I think that’s one of ya brothers !!!”
Even though Desi ended up not being my brother, and I gained a great friend, I was disgusted at the thought and didn’t date for a good while. Especially since my father had possible been the sole reason for the population influx in my hood.
Now, when I met the cutey Jason I made sure to ask about his daddy and most his family just to be certain. He seemed perfect. And thinking back on it probably a little too perfect. I just knew I was in love. Packed my little bag of stuff and moved out of Granny Cherry’s two-bedroom house over her salon to live with my man. But everything changed when I moved in. His yelling increased to slaps and then that one night. The night he came home high as a giraffe butt. And that cutey Jason beat on me so bad that night I ended up in the hospital for days. Desi came by the hospital on my last night there with my Granny and his younger sister who worked in her shop. Granny had taken her in after I moved out. Brung her by so I could meet my new roommate. She said won’t no way I was going back to my man.
My sweet father hunted cutey Jason down. And ended up back in prison, 15 years for aggravated assault. Nearly beat that man to death with his bare hands.
That was a terrible time for me. Losing my father and my boyfriend. Then having to move back home with Granny Cherry. Not having my own space wasn’t ideal either but sharing a room with Diamond wasn’t all that bad. Desi came around a lot to hang with us before he joined the military. Then he left me too. And almost a year later when it was all starting to settle for me my Granny Cherry passed leaving me her shop/house.
I let Diamond run the shop since Granny had trained her. And I hit the streets looking for fun. Jumping states with my stripper friends who knew how to follow the money. And them two-faced streets gave me Jabbar.
Jabbar reminded me of my father. The drug dealing thuggish type. I met him while working at the strip club as a topless waiter. And surprise surprise, I found out that fool was cheating on me with one of the dancers. Sick and tired of getting treated like whatever by dudes, I decided on revenge. And his snitch of a brother, who was always eyeing me and over tipping me, was more than willing. Too bad he was telling before the wet stop had a chance to dry
Thus, I find myself in this trunk.
