The anniversary gift
He was a gift to my mom from Dad on thier anniversary. Dad told my mom, he gifted her another child it was true cause soon he became a huge member of our small clan and maybe beneficiary of our inheritance. But more than my mom he became my kid - the barbie doll to inflict all your desires I fed him stroked him and taught him all words a he could memorise.Growing up as a kid with a much older irrelevant and not relatable brother, he became my sole listener of stories and the prey to all my ridiculous pranks.Few years back, I left my nest and shifted to another city. That is when the change happened, a slow gradual painful change .The one who purred while perched on my shoulder, the one who never ate from any other hand now became my mom's obsessive mate. In turn my mom, suffering from empty nest syndrome found a companion in him.
So the last holiday when I visited home,I felt the pangs of separation and he was furious at me for dividing his undivided attention from Mom. he didn't let me stroke him or feed him instead he screamed and screeched at me whenever he saw me around mom .This went on for many short lived holidays and then Lockdown happened and I was stuck in my house for a unpredictable time with hostile treatment from my beloved creature. Days went by, but I religiously continued to feed him and take care of him He became mellow and it was only yestersay when he moved slowly beside me and purred on my shoulder.
what I realised and why I wanted yo share this story is that animals although differs from human because of rationality but they forever prove what kind of rationality they have, A rationale which understands that I should love someone who has time for me , while a human is stuck in unreplied texts unrequited love and a person who takes our presence for granted .
