LOVE'S CRADLE
#WritcoStoryChallenge
The car sped through the dark night, it's headlights flashing, warning the incoming traffic,
In the back seat, was an almost lifeless child clutched in the embrace of a weeping mother,
who was doing everything she could, to stand between death and the one who occupies the deepest part of her heart.
She silently muttered every word of prayer she knew and hoped for a response,
some sort of miracle to know she was not alone in her fight.
It was a cold and harsh night, and her son had slipped and fallen down a flight of stairs.
Earlier that same day, they had a quarrel about her estranged husband who had turned into an alcoholic following the loss of their daughter who drowned on a family fishing trip.
Something kept pushing her to talk to her son and make him understand why his dad had been away, but she resisted as she was dealing with her own pain of the loss of her daughter.
Now torn between guilt and the state of her son in her arms, she cried some more in the back of a speeding vehicle, hoping her son would recover so she could make him understand how much she loved him very much. Help seemed miles away, but she was determined to get it, she wasn't going to lose another child.
