Valentoria Kei

I walk into my Spanish class half sleep, with my arms locked with my best friend, Sadili. We'd just finished the *AGS Exams that kept us awake hours throughout the night.

Sadili and I were so relieved that the exams were over. This was one step closer for me to get a full ride to college and for Sadili to make her parents proud, but that is only if we passed with flying colors.

Spanish class is always so boring for me. Sadili always facing backwards towards her boyfriend, Zachary, and no one paying attention to me except for these bad grades.

I feel my eyes slowly shutting as all my thoughts become heavy on my head.

"Wake up, Val." I hear Sadili whisper to me, and feel a nudge on my shoulder.

"Class is dismissed. Sadili, Zachary, Valentoria, stay. Everyone else is dismissed." says Ms. Mackland, the Spanish teacher.

I mentally roll my eyes knowing how petty Ms. Mackland can be sometimes, as everyone walks out of the classroom.

Sadili, Zachary, and I walk up to her desk. "Well...?!" Zachary says, with one hand on his left hip and the other being dragged down his face.

"Sadili and Zachary, after school detention for being indecent during class. Valentoria, after school detention for sleeping during class. Starting right now," Ms. Mackland chuckles mid-sentence before finishing. "well because it's after school."

We don't even bother to argue and begin waling back to our seats, but then I remember that I have a meeting with my group for an English project.

I turn around with a huff, "Excuse me, Ms. Mackland."

Ms. Mackland looks up from her papers and fakely grins at me, "Yes, Valentoria?"

"I'm working on a school project and I need to meet up with my group today. We'd planned to meet today, after school." I say to her in the most respectful tone I can speak in.

She sighs and takes off her glasses, "Well, I'll tell you what, Valentoria. If you can get your group to come work in here then I have no problem with it."

I smile surprised and reply, "Okay, thanks, I'll go-"

She cuts me off saying, "You have less than five minutes to be back in this classroom and if your not, then detention for month it is. And leave you stuff in here while you get them."

I nod, all of my surprise vanishing. I walk to the door to leave, deciding to look back at where Sadili and Zachary are and of course I regret it. Sadili sits across the room from Zachary, covering her faces shyly as Zachary shoots vulgar, suggestive hand signs at her.

I walk down the hall and to the library where we were supposed to meet. My group sitting at the largest table in the room turns to look at me when I enter the library.

The tall girl, with dark purple box braids smiles and waves at me, but I can't remember her name or anybody's to be honest. Everyone else just stares at me unimpressed.

As I walk over the boy with big muscles, an f-boy face, and assumably depression opens up a folder and takes out a packet from it. I'm assuming the package is mine considering he was given the leader role in the group.

"Your late-" he begins to say, before I cut him off not wanting to deal with his attitude.

"So, hey guys, I got detention and my teacher said if you guys would come to the classroom to work then we'd could still work on the project."

"You couldn't of said something earlier?!" The project leader, says obviously frustrated.

"Nope, I actually just found out."

Purple box braids smiles, standing up and gathering her stuff in a pile. "Well, guys, we obviously have no choice if we want to work on the project right? Let's not take this farther than it needs to go."

We all walk back to the classroom, no one saying much.

I got back in the classroom and somehow Zachary managed to get two seats closer to Sadili and Ms. Mackland looks five percent more annoyed.

She looks up at us, "You're two minutes late, Valentoria, but I'll excuse it and heyyy, Malik! I didn't know you would be working in a group with Valentoria." She says weirdly, like the weirdo she is.

A slim, medium height, dark skin boy who's name I just found out is "Malik" sighs, quietly. "Hi, Ms. Mackland." Malik says, plainly not even sparing a glance at the ol' cooger.

"C'mon, guys, no time for small talk. This project is due tomorrow and we've barely even started." The project leader says, scratching his head.
