Reflections on the Bhagavad Gita :

What is ‘Nis-Kama Karma’ ? (Desireless Work or Action).

Bhagavad Gita is interspersed with Krishna urging Arjuna (and so to the entire humanity) to perform ‘Nis-Kama-Karma’ in everyday life.

Nis-Kama-Karma stands for work or action which is free from selfish motives.

Most of us humans work with the intention of getting some form of reward, without which we prefer to sit, slouch, slack or sleep soundly by going inert.

It is our selfish tendency to fulfill any kind of a desire (called ‘Kama’ in Sanskrit), which drives us to do work.

Krishna, though, in his song on the battlefield, advises humans to think of work as our own responsibility, just like all other responsibilities with intake during the course of our lives.
