the treehouse
CHAPTER 1
Ubique's perspective

I was already getting really impatient inside the house, waiting for the power to come back. I had been sitting here in the living room for three hours, hunched over, sketching a landscape of a paradise-like beach. It’s the image that always appears in my dreams. I had just finished the drawing when Mickey suddenly shouted from our grandfather’s room on the third floor.

I immediately went looking for him, leaving the scattered papers and charcoal pencils on my table. When I got upstairs, I found my best friend, eyes wide open, holding our great-grandfather’s journal—Grandpa Tasyo. The truth is, he was actually Mickey’s father’s real father, but he had treated me like a grandchild ever since I was orphaned many years ago.

“That’s the one!” Our eyes lit up with excitement.

“Come, read this!”

I quickly grabbed the journal. On page 281, I read the words:

I want them to know that this treehouse does not only exist in the realm of stories. It’s real. The island can be found using the map hidden in my closet.

We immediately searched for the hidden map and studied the lines that seemed complicated at first glance.

“I want to start the journey right now, Ubique! I’m so excited to see what the treehouse looks like in real life, not just in Grandpa’s stories.”

“You’re being too hasty with your decision. We’ll have to travel miles and miles."

"According to this map,...
