Some memories of childhood
I was grew up in Punjab . Our dinner time was at 8:30pm to 9:00pm and bed time was 10:00pm
Going out at a restaurant was not fot us. It was a huge deal.
We cannot eat such things like fast food every other day and having a bottle of ThumsUp or a other cold drinks , juices milkshake .(we drink doodh soda from the Halwai shop in the neighborhood .It was a real treat for us
We took off our school uniforms as soon as we got home and put on our ‘home’ clothes. There was no picking up and dropping off in school. We either boarded the school bus or or it was close enough to walk along with our friends.
Our house phone had a cord attached and a rotary dial so there were no such things as private conversations!
We didn’t have Foxtel, Star, Amazon Prime or Netflix, we had only 1 Doordarshan and 1 PTV channel to watch for which we were waiting for...
We played Cops & Robbers, Hide & Seek, Football, Cricket, Pithhu-Garam, Gulli Danda, Marbles and any other game we could come up with.....no gender bias
Staying in the house was a PUNISHMENT and the only thing we knew about "bored" was --- "You better find something to do before I find it for you!"
We played music via Vinyl records or magnetic tapes and of course tune in our Vividh Bharati Radio or Binaca Geet Mala.
We went to the local shop for grocery and candy, used to be a couple of paise, every shop person used to know to which house we belonged to.
We ate what Mum made for dinner and special dinners were only on Birthdays or festival days. If we didn’t eat our vegetables there was no dessert.
We weren't AFRAID OF ANYTHING. We played till dark... sunset was our alarm.
If someone had a fight, that's what it was and we were friends again a week later, if not SOONER.
We watched our MOUTHS around our elders because ALL of our aunts, uncles, grandpas, grandmas, AND our parents' best friends were all extensions of our PARENTS and you didn't want them telling your parents if you misbehaved! Or they would give you something to cry about.
We respected the Police, Firemen, Ambulance workers, Teachers, Doctors and Nurses.
We never answered back..... ever !!
We got detention at school for not doing homework, being late to class or being naughty. Teachers words were final.
Those were the good days. So many kids today will never know how it feels to be a real kid 😁 I loved my childhood and all the friends I hung around with. Good Times 🤓😘 Those sweet n lovely memories never fade...
Copy and paste if you are from the same Generation.... 🙂 I definitely am....
