The Rusted Box
#WritcoStoryPrompt1
The parcel that had arrived today, contained an old key and a list of instructions to use it. I brushed through the garden front to see if I could see a face or a shadow. But there was absolutely no one there. I picked up the parcel to walk back into my room. Basically, I stayed here on rent. Its a farm house of Mr Roy. The family lived in New York and their farm house in Siliguri was vacant since many years.
Last week, I took it on rent. I have recently come to Siliguri for my job.
I joined as a Manager in a tea estate. The estate belonged to the Roy's.
Ok, so now let us focus on the present day. It is a sunday. Lazy sunday you may call. I thought of sleeping few more hours today. Usually, I get up at 6 in the morning but today I had a different plan. But this door bell, broke my sleep into a million pieces.
And now I am standing here with this silly parcel with an old key. So let us now read the letter that comes along with the key.
It reads: The key to the golden globe.
The garden back has door,
Walk a step and four.
The pole star shows the way,
Find it out in a day.
Turn the right of right,
You will have my sight.
Dig me deep a while,
Lift it up a smile.
Smile can open box,
Says the clever fox.

These lines seemed like a rhyming poetry to me. But my detective brain spoke in a different tone. This cannot be a normal poem. Thinking this, I turned the page. Again few lines.
It reads: The key is all you see,
It's as deep as the sea.
The stars are smiling high,
Through the cloudy sky.
My life is infinite,
Still it shines so bright.
At the end of zero,
You can be the hero.

Now, I noticed sweat drops dripping down my eyes and face. These lines are no ordinary poem. They have something fishy. I took the key and the letter to my study table. And began reading them again and again.
The key to the golden globe: May be it speaks about treasure. Some hidden property.
The garden back has door: I took the letter and headed towards the backyard. Yes!!! it had a door. It was locked. But after a minute, I found the key hanging from the attic. I took it and opened the door.
Next line reads, Walk a step and four: Well, may be it speaks about walking five steps. But in which direction?
The Pole star shows the way: Pole star...pole star...yes, Eureka!!! Polestar means North direction. So I began strolling towards the north.
Turn the right of right: I turned right twice at the very place I was standing.

There I saw a strange thing. The land over there was a bit swelled up, as if someone had fiddled with the soil. I read the next line and began digging with a spade, I took from the garden room before coming here. After few strokes on the ground, the spade head hit something. It was a rusted box.
As if locked since ages. I picked it up and read the next line. Smile!!! I gazed closely at the box. There was a smiling face of a knight imprinted on the box. I looked at it in awe. I pressed the design. Immediately, to my surprise, the face slid sideways to expose a lock with numeric key pad and a hole to insert the key. Now I needed the codes. The codes can open this box.
I began reading through the next set of lines. The stars are smiling high: I thought for a while. Yes!!! Stars, meaning seven stars. The first number must be 7. I continued reading again.
My life is infinite: Well, infinite means zero. Nothingness can be quoted as infinite. Nothing definite. No absolute value. I read again for the next digit.
At the end of zero: This means, perhaps, zero is approaching its end, which implies, the next immediate absolute digit after zero, i.e 1. Bingo!!! The digits are 7 0 1. Yes!!! the box opened up. And the box had thousands of gold coins with the face of the knight inscribed on it. And a small note which read: Congratulations!!!! You deserve this.
I lost words to express the pounding waves that swept through my mind.
I took the box and walked inside. My years of desire to do something for those in need and distress will come true now. I purchased a land and opened up a home for the poor and hungry people who lived in the far vicinity and named it "The Royal Palace". A hundred people with their families are staying there. They work in a garden nearby and produce vegetables and cereals. A happy life and a smile on their gloomy faces is all I dreamt from my childhood. My dream has come true.
