The Misfits
#WritcoStoryChallenge
The footsteps following me sounded closer. I ran through the empty corridors of the hospital, my heart pounding with terror.
I turned a corner and stopped short. I had reached a dead end.
The clumping sound of heavy feet echoed in the very near distance.
This abandoned mental hospital wasn't so abandoned after all.
The sounds of not one but many feet howled through the empty corridor.
Trapped at a dead end, my fate felt near.
dreaded with terror, I balled up my fist tight and punched a whole through a nearby window.
smashing the wwindow completely I managed to slice my hand and lower forearm pretty badly.
A slow warm sensation flowed down my arm, blood dripping and drenching my clothes.
Tearing a piece of my worn white shirt off, I immediately wrapped my hand to slow the bleeding.
Rusty iron bars caged the windows, from a time previously meant to keep mental health patients imprisoned in this hell hold.
I fiercely clutched the iron bars with both hands, planted my feet against the white brick walls and began pulling the rusted bars with all my might!
Surprisingly, the rusted bars snapped with a quickness, leaving a big enough gap for me to slide through...
I was two stories up from the ground so I knew the fall wouldn't hurt me as much as I expected, knowing there were bushes right below me.
I leaped from the window with haste falling straight into the massive rose Bush below.
throns tacked into my entire body, I hopped up in a hurry and darted towards the front gates of the compound.
"Get him, he jumped" a man from the second story screamed!
with the men not far behind, I ran as fast as I could towards the 10 ft tall gate that surrounded the facility.
Like a monkey I climbed, with all my might I grappled the gate and begun my ascent.
As I made it over the gate, I seen the people chasing me...
It was none other than Baltin high school bullies from the football team.
A bunch of loud mouth pricks who got a kick out of picking on me for the past few weeks.
The captain of the football team, a kid known by the nickname "Bubba" yelled out, "come here boy, we have a bone to pick with you"!
Without hesitation, I darted towards the main road and began running towards another abandon building close by.
This part of town was shut down a few years prior due to government funding, so most of the properties had been run down and harbored homeless people and typical thugs.
In the near distance I had noticed the boy's just getting over the gate & I immediately lunged into the brick building with no door on it.
Tagged in graffiti, most of which seemed to be the local gangs logo, I knew then and there I had picked the wrong building to hide...
A group shadows stepped out of the darkness of the abandoned brick building not 10 feet from where I was standing.
struck with fear, I was frozen in place unable to move.
"what you doing here kid, dont you know this is rubble gangs terf" murmured a paled faced man with slicked backed hair & a brand new leather jacket.
Eyes cold as ice, with tattoos covering his entire body.
I had no words, the fear gripped my throat.
Another guy chimed in, "he asked you a question punk"...
The entire gang of ten were now visible & I was trapped between them and the bullies outside in the street who could hear the chattering from us in the building.
One of the gang members looked out the window and hinted towards the bigger man with the leather jacket which indicated he was the leader.
"boss, it's the Bolton highschool gang out side".
The leader nodded towards the front door as a if telling everyone to go outside.
clearly they listened as one gang member grabbed me by my arm and we all walked towards the front door and outside we went.
"Please just let me go, I dont want any trouble these guys were chasing me & I was just exploring the abandoned hospital for fun".
The leader could tell I was telling the truth and he hinted towards the man holding my arm to let off his firm grip and let me go.
"go ahead kid get out of here and do t come back" the l
tall, broad shouldered leader said sternly.
In amazement the I looked at the gang and the bullies almost stumbling over myself I slowly paced backwards still steering into their angry faces.
"you have no right to let him go, hes our punching bag" yelled the quarterback bully!
The gang leader grinned at him and directed his face towards me once more, "I said get out of here kid before I decided to kick your ass too"!
In shock I started slowly running towards the direction of town.
as I paced forward, I looked back one last time to only see the gang and football team having a violent brawl.
one by one they began fighting each other, some with knives others with brass knuckles.
As I kept running, bugs smacking me in the face, i could hear the loud ruckus of fight that echoed in the distance not to far beyond...
I made it to the edge of town, now knowing I was safe in distance, I stopped to catch my breath.
My luck, finally for once, someone stood up for me, little ole scrawny, nerdy me.
I'm just a normal kid with a sense of adventure, caught at the wrong time and right time.
A part of me wanted to thank that tough, stern gang leader.
Would I ever see him again, I dont know but i do know that he was the first person who had been nice to me since i moved into town with my family.
A bad dude with a good heart.
that was my type of friend...
I paced there for a few more minutes before just thinking to myself "thanks man, thanks....
